POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Director of Finance, Equis is seeking an experienced and knowledgeable Finance Associate to perform various financial and accounting tasks, such as preparing budgets and financial reports, offering advice on fiscal procedures, managing accounting records, handling accounts payable and receivable, and preparing payroll documents. This individual will work closely with senior or executive teams, advising them on different reports, best practices, and relevant accounting and financial data. This position will also serve to track financial performance across several entities to ensure the organization is operating within budget while remaining compliant to ensure our nonprofit statuses are protected. This individual will possess exceptional organizational skills and excellent attention to detail, be a strong communicator, team player, and be able to manage multiple priorities with professionalism.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Help with financial operational tasks such as budgeting, tracking expenses against chart of accounts across several entities.
  • Develop, analyze, and interpret statistical and accounting information to evaluate operating results in terms of profitability and performance against budget.
  • Assist with all quarterly and year-end system processes, reporting requirements, and audits to ensure compliance
  • Review proposed changes to existing policies and procedures to better comply with current laws and regulations.
  • Actively participates in the ideation process to build and maintain internal and external systems that increase efficiency
  • Own reimbursement requests and payables to multiple vendors to ensure timely payment deliverables
  • Record revenue and expenses in financial software
  • Process A/P: enter data into accounting system, ensure expenses are accurately coded per budget-holder's instructions and ensure sign-off by assigning approvers
  • Prepare and deliver credit card reports for cardholders, assign and manage deadlines for cardholders, follow-up to ensure completeness and accuracy of submissions
  • Support the formulation of annual budgets and long-term forecasts, including revenue and expense forecasting, budget planning, spending analysis, and balance sheet analysis in conjunction with the Director of Finance.
  • Review and support the maintenance of the rolling 12-month cash flow model on a monthly basis, including payroll review, coding reclassifications, end-of-year projections, and budget-to-actual comparisons.
  • Perform analyses, as required, on various financial and operational issues such as: evaluation of third-party versus in-house service provisions; vendor and contract comparisons; and measures of operational effectiveness, and then use these analyses to recommend potential cost savings measures.
  • Plans, schedules, prepares agenda and supporting documentation for budget meetings with department managers for their assigned portfolio
  • Drive Day-to-day Financial Operations for the assigned department(s) with responsibilities in the areas of budgeting, performance assessment, and reporting. These areas include but are not limited to:
    • Support the preparation of timely monthly financial statements and updating Cash on Hand/budget trackers.
    • Support the preparation of timely and relevant management reports that provide insights into the organization's performance against its financial plans and related financial health.
    • Support the preparation of financial reports for various needs and audiences
    • Collaborate with various departments and teams to develop specialized sub-budgets, update financial assumptions & projections, and produce ad-hoc financial reports.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • 5+ years of finance, accounting or booking experience
  • Demonstrated history and understanding of working in an accounting/finance department
  • Proficiency in SAGE Intacct (or similar), Microsoft Excel/Google Sheets, and Google Drive products required.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines effectively and efficiently.
  • Ability to lead, drive and hold budget meetings for assigned portfolio
  • A passion for building and improving internal and external systems
  • Ability to function independently with minimal supervision.
  • Team player mentality with a willingness to help other staff with various tasks.
  • A keen eye for detail, both in holistic and minute details
  • High degree of adaptability and ability to move in a fast paced, evolving environment.
  • Inclination towards problem solving
    • Identifies and generates suggestions for improving work or resolving problems
  • Outstanding collaboration skills with diverse audience groups
  • Demonstrated history of proactive attitude and high degree of self-direction; with a history of positively collaborating with high-level principals
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and ability to relay information and present to senior leadership
  • Experience in facilitating short, mid, and long term projects with detail oriented insights while addressing sensitive timelines, deadlines, and competing priorities

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting or Finance related field
  • Experience with Sage Intacct, RAMP, and Martus
  • Previous experience working in a startup environment and/or a nonprofit entity
  • Bilingual in Spanish


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds at times
  • The ability to communicate with colleagues, partners, and clients via phone, video call, and email


WORK ENVIRONMENT

Equis is a national remote office environment with team members located across all continental U.S. time zones. Candidates should be prepared to either work from home or a location of their choosing that is located within the continental United States. Equis has implemented a pro vaccination policy, subject to exemptions. Candidates must be willing to follow the established policy to prevent and limit the exposure of COVID-19.

This position requires the ability to work core hours Monday through Friday in your local time. This position will require occasional nights and weekend work and some in-person attendance for all-staff or department level events, approximately 2 per year, which require overnight travel.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

This is a fully remote (USA only), full-time position, EXEMPT and a competitive salary range of $78,000-$90,000K/year. This salary range represents a good faith estimate of what Equis may pay for this position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as budget availability and commensurate with the selected candidates' experience. As the role progresses, there is potential for salary growth and professional development opportunities commensurate with the evolution of the role. This position is currently funded through 2025.
