Job description

NETWORK ARCHITECT - SME

HERNDON

Position requires ACTIVE TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph

Mandatory Skills:

1. Required Skills

2. Design and optimize network topologies and site configurations. Plan installations, transitions, and cutovers of network components and capabilities.

3. Organize and direct network installations or site surveys.

4. Assess and document current site network configuration and user requirements.

5. Evaluate and recommend COTS applications and methodologies that can be acquired to provide interoperable, portable, and scaleable information technology solutions.

6. Ability to convey technical designs, ideas and results to non-technical audiences and provide briefings to high-level government personnel.

7. Must have knowledge of Cisco Routing and Switching, and network architecture planning.

8. Must have knowledge of remote administration and secure Virtual Private Networking, to include IPSEC and SSL.

9. Must understand commercial encryption standards and their application in IP networking.

10. An understanding of Private Branch Exchange telephony, to include Avaya/Nortel telephone switch interfaces

11. An understanding of RF transport mediums to include cellular, microwave, and satellite communications.

12. An understanding of wired data transport mediums to include Category 5e/6 and fiber optics.

13. Ability to design small to medium scale voice, video, and data networks. Familiarity and experience with various encryption devices and industry standard commercial encryption methods.

14. Knowledge of WAN technologies to include ISDN, POTS, and Satellite voice and data circuits and terminal device configuration.

15. Understanding and experience applying RF communications systems to include HF/VHF/UHF, microwave, and VSAT systems.

16. Thorough understanding and experience with application of routing protocols (particularly TCP/IP) and the configuration and use of networking devices such as routers, switches, and firewalls.

17. Familiarity with wireless standards such as GSM, CDMA, 802.11 and 802.16 technologies.

18. Experience with common test and analysis equipment to include spectrum analyzers, network sniffers, LAN/WAN simulation equipment, and COTS software.

19. Possession of excellent oral and written communications skills.

Optional Skills:

1. Certifications such as CCIE and MCSE

2. Knowledge of Microsoft Server administration and service oriented system design.

3. Knowledge of VMWare ESX Server and virtual system architecture, to utilize Storage Area Network (SAN) technology.
