Position Summary:

The Pre-Certification Coordinator provides support to the surgical poster in communicating with the insurance companies to ensure proper certification/authorization is obtained prior to surgery as well as the communication and pre-collection of the patient's financial responsibility.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Obtains verification of insurance coverage and authorization from primary care office for clinical visits and surgical procedures.
  • Alerts Surgical Posters and Site Managers of scheduling errors.
  • Consistently pre-certs all procedures on assigned physician's schedules 2 weeks in advance.
  • (ASC procedures, office injections, and hospital procedures).
  • Alerts appropriate staff of financial responsibilities > $200 for patients.
  • Communicates patient financial responsibility to the patient prior to the appointment and takes pre-collection payments.
  • Communicates necessary patient financial information with appropriate office and billing personnel in an efficient, timely, and accurate manner.
  • Documents, within the practice management system, all required information to include financial responsibility.
  • Scans all referrals into EMR and links the referrals to the appointment in Allscripts PM.
  • Perform other office duties as assigned by manager.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Minimum High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years Pre-Certification, Medical Front Office, or Medical Billing experience.


Knowledge, Competencies & Skills:

  • Proficient knowledge of Medical Terminology; ICD-9 and CPT-4 Codes.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer software and database skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Collection background is a plus.
  • Ability to type a minimum of 40 words per minute.

  • Must have the ability & willingness to travel to other sites as necessary within a geographic region.


Physical Requirements for the Job:

  • Regularly required to sit and stand for extended periods.
  • Involves standing, sitting, walking, bending, stooping, and twisting.
  • Requires full range of body motion, including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
  • May be required to help to transfer the patient.
  • Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 25 lbs.
