Job description

Summary

The Network Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, monitoring, and managing the local and wide area networks, which consist of Lidl HQ, warehouses and stores. The role includes designing system configurations, documenting and managing the installation of new networks, and maintaining and upgrading existing network systems as necessary.

What You'll Do

Essential Functions
Effectively manage projects and project timelines while working independently and collaboratively to achieve short, medium, and long-term departmental visions
Evaluate industry best practices and monitor developments and innovations within the retail sector particular to their business that may be beneficial to the daily operations of the organization
Analyze and evaluate projects and develop ideas and/or practical solutions for streamlining business processes
Design and implement new network solutions and/or improve the efficiency and security of current networks according to ITH
Install, configure and support network equipment including Cisco routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless LAN controller
Procure network equipment and manage subcontractors involved with network installations
Maximize network performance through ongoing monitoring and troubleshooting
Investigate faults in the network and provide solutions
Update network equipment to the latest firmware releases
Ensure ownership of critical systems/processes
Strong time management skills
Identify and optimize business processes
Establish self as a SME in assigned roles and for responsible tasks
Take on new tasks proactively
Prioritize and execute multiple project assignments and subsequent tasks in business impact context
Tailor communication to given audiences
Problem and Risk management for general business impact
Coordination and prioritization of work quality output in focus areas
Establish self as point of contact for assigned business stakeholder and own the relationship
Proactively analyze process gaps and dependencies and identify solutions
Perform other duties as assigned

What You'll Need

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Good knowledge of LAN/WAN/WLAN networks, TCP/IP protocols and network technologies (Cisco/FortiGate/Checkpoint/Barracuda/Huawei)
Solid understanding of VPN technologies such as DMVPN and GetVPN over MPLS & broadband
Ability to assess the impact of issues to appropriately escalate
Ability to clearly document issues and communicate topics with associated stakeholders
Adaptability to work efficiently in a global environment
Ability to understand functional business requests and translate them into technical requirements
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Network Automation using Python / ansible / Cisco EEM

Required Education, Certifications/ Licenses, Related Experience
Bachelor's degree
3-5 years of experience in a related field
In lieu of degree, 5+ years of experience in related field will meet the education and related experience requirements listed above
Computer systems and networks
Computer software/computer systems engineering
Electrical/electronic engineering
Telecommunication - networks

Preferred Education, Certifications/ Licenses, Related Experience
CCNA/CCNP
MCSA
