Manager of Oncology Services - Full-time

Job description

As a member of the Cancer Care Service Line Management Team, the individual is responsible for all business operations with a strategic focus on Infusion and Radiation performance. Serves on various department and health system committees and is the liaison between the Oncology Service Line and the Frederick Health Medical Group, Information Systems, Finance, Revenue Cycle, Pharmacy, Payor Contracting, and Materials Management. Direct oversight of oncology pre-authorization, denials management, and financial counseling staff.

This position supports the Frederick Health mission, vision, core values and customer service philosophy and adheres to the Frederick Health Compliance Program, including following all regulatory requirements and the Frederick Health Standards of Behavior.

Examples of Essential Functions:

* Maintains in-depth knowledge of Infusion Therapy and Radiation Medicine revenue cycle operations. Provides direct supervision and management to these procedural areas, and their supportive areas including Oncology Financial Counseling, Pre-authorization, and Denials Management.

* Analyzes data and information to identify trends or patterns with a focus on infusion drug margins and radiation medicine productivity.

* In partnership with Cancer Care Service Line leaders, evaluates processes and identifies department specific key performance indicators (KPIs). Develops strategies for improvement, and coordinates the implementation and oversight of improvement projects with department leaders.

* Implements and maintains unit level dashboards that include productivity, quality, and patient satisfaction data as defined by Frederick Health and Frederick Health Medical Group.

* Establishes a methodology for monitoring infusion therapy drug margins, identifying opportunities, and realizing fiscal gains where clinically appropriate. Leads Infusion Therapy Steering Committee.

* Serves as an active participant in the Oncology Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T) Committee. Provides a financial analysis of potential additions to the Oncology formulary and works with the Medical Oncologists to optimize ordering patterns.

* Works with Pharmacy to identify opportunities for cost savings and ensures the appropriate analytics are available for pharmaceutical purchasing negotiations.

* Develops a trend reporting methodology for each department and reports trends on a monthly basis.

* Collaborates with unit leaders and medical directors to prepare a cost benefit analyses and business plans for requested capital and new programs.

* Identifies opportunities to leverage internal and external data to drive business solutions.

* Prepares and submits annual operating and capital budget worksheets for each department.

* Places a high priority on facilitating cooperation, team work, and positive communication in and amongst the Cancer Care Service Line departments.

* Actively engages in departmental efforts to promote retention of staff and provide for a high level of employee morale.

* Understands quality/service measures and goals relating to provider and department performance in order to support remediation and improvement efforts.

* Assists with translating population health and quality program requirements into operational workflows.

* Responsible for all aspects of supervision and management of assigned staff including hiring, onboarding, performance evaluations, coaching and disciplinary procedures.

* Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

* High proficiency in the interpretation of financial reporting and highly skilled with financial reporting software systems, spreadsheets, and graphics.

* Strong analytical, conceptual and synthesizing skills. Exhibits attention to detail, and ensures accuracy of one's work.

* Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to interact with a wide range of disciplines at multiple levels.

* Broad understanding of infusion drugs and services, complex medical and surgical referrals, and patient information coordination.

* Strong organizational and time management skills and ability to prioritize and manage multiple competing projects and assignments with minimal supervision.

* Always models standards of behavior, policies and procedures in accordance with the mission, vision and values of FH.

Minimum Education, Training, and Experience Required:

* Bachelor's degree in business, or related field.

* MBA strongly preferred.

* A minimum of 10 years of experience in healthcare finance, IT, or data analytics required.

* Project management experience preferred.

* Supervisory experience preferred.
