JOB SUMMARY

Plans and coordinates plant operations and general maintenance, ensuring standardized custodial services in school buildings in an assigned area. Works closely with School Administration, Chiefs, Lead Custodians, and Custodians to resolve problems concerning plant operations and maintenance and ensure that custodial teams receive technical support, training, equipment and supplies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

* Ensures that work areas are maintained in a clean, safe and sanitary manner and enforces occupational health and safety standards and procedures. Investigates accidents promptly and thoroughly.

* Mentors and trains custodians on Operations procedures, occupational safety and the proper use of chemicals, tools, and equipment. Provides job-site safety training and reinforces safe work practices and reinforces safe work practices.

* Assists with establishing and prioritizing schedules and assignments for custodial teams to maximize facility reliability and availability.

* Collaborates with school administration to identify and recommend staff for corrective personnel action as needed. As appropriate delegates corrective personnel action to subordinate staff or conducts performance counseling sessions and initiates progressive discipline as required.

* Inspects facilities routinely to evaluate the performance of site-based custodial teams. Provides corrective measures to resolve poor-quality issues. Ensures results of completed work meets defined quality standards.

* Responds in a timely manner to facility emergencies, such as boiler, electrical, or plumbing breakdowns or vandalism, including the management of minor emergencies to restore facilities to normal conditions.

* Tests, evaluates, and recommends appropriate use of new custodial supplies and equipment.

* Assists in the preparation of the budget.

* Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education

* High School Diploma or Equivalency Certificate High School Diploma or Equivalency Certificate required.

* Associate's Degree in Business Administration, Industrial Engineering, Environmental Science, Applied Science, (AAS) in Quality Assurance, Training and Development, or related of field of education from a regionally accredited college or university. preferred.

Experience

* Six (6) years supervisory or team leader experience required; and

* Two (2) years experience in building maintenance, operations, and/or custodial service work preferred;

* Or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities deemed sufficient to prepare the employee to successfully perform the duties of the position.

Licenses and Certifications

Employee must retain active licenses, certifications, and enrollment as a condition of employment.

* Hold or be eligible for 3rd Grade Stationary Engineer License issued by Maryland Board of Stationary Engineers preferred; or

* Hold or be eligible for 2nd Grade Stationary Engineer License issued by Maryland Board of Stationary Engineers preferred; or

* Hold or be eligible for 1st Grade Stationary Engineer License issued by Maryland Board of Stationary Engineers preferred; or

* First available after appointment Introduction to School Facilities Boiler Plant Safety & Procedures Certificate issued by AACPS or equivalent outside course required.

* Upon hire, Driver's License (DL) Class C Non-Commercial issued by Maryland or State of Legal Residence (MVA/DMV) required; and

* Proof of a good driving record required.

* Daily access to reliable transportation.

* Driving is required to conduct bona fide Board business that is within the scope of employment in this position.
