JOB INFORMATION

Exempt; full-time; 35 hours per week; Monday - Friday; 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.; full-benefits

NOTE: Above base salary pay will be considered on a case by case basis and will be determined upon the qualifications of the successful candidate.

This professional position is responsible for diagnostic evaluation and intervention for infants and toddlers birth to entry into school following a child's 4th birthday who may present with speech/ language and other developmental delays. Services are rendered through the Frederick County Developmental Center (FCDC), the lead agency for the Frederick County Infants and Toddlers Program (FCITP). Direct supervision is received from a Team Supervisor.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

* Conduct diagnostic evaluations of communication disorders according to American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) standards and code of ethics

* Interpret findings to the parent, guardian or responsible person

* Provide or coordinateservices within natural environmentsfor those with diagnosed communication impairments through FCITP or public and private community resources

* Utilize a coaching model of interaction with parents,caregivers, and colleagues.

* Embed early intervention services in naturally occurring family routines

* Assume responsibility for the interpretation, follow-up and distribution of evaluation findings to appropriate persons or agencies

* Attend weekly team meetings, Child Find meetings, parent conferences and other meetings as necessary

* Conduct assessments of infants, toddlers and preschool age children for speech, language or auditory impairments and provide full multidisciplinary evaluations when appropriate

* Conduct family assessments and develop functional IFSP's utilizing Routines Based Interviews.

* Design appropriate supports and services addressing speech and language developmentfor infants, toddlers and preschool age children

* Educate parents, caregivers, professionals and others in principles of communication and language acquisition for children ages birth to kindergarten

* Develop, case manage, and implement Individual Family Service Plans

* Establish and maintain affiliation with community organizations

* Work in collaboration with providers in other disciplines to provide transdisciplinary services

* Perform other related duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

The qualifications / requirements, knowledge/skills/abilities and physical demands or working conditions described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. * Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology or in Speech Language and Hearing Science

* Maryland State license to practice Speech-Language Pathology, or current SLP license from another state with ability to obtain the MD state SLP license before hire date (current licensure must be maintained during employment)

* Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) from ASHA

* Some SLP experience working with infants, toddlers and/or preschoolers with developmental delays (internship may be considered)

* Possession of a valid automobile drivers license

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

* Knowledge of the standards set by ASHA and the Maryland State Board of Examiners for Speech Language Pathologists

* Knowledge of Maryland State laws, rules and regulations governing Speech Language Pathologists

* Knowledge of the development and implementation of Individualized Family Service Plans

* Ability to work positively and effectively with co-workers, children who have developmental delays and/or disabilities, and with other individuals

* Strong and effective spoken and written (English) communication skills

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORKING CONDITIONS:

* While working in this position, the employee is frequently sitting, walking, driving; occasionally climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, lifting up to 20 pounds, lifting between 20-50 pounds, reaching and making repetitive motions.

* While working in this position, the employee is constantly indoors; frequently outdoors and potentially exposed to infectious diseases

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION / EXAMINATION PROCESS

* At the discretion of FCDC administrators, this position may be filled at the lower classification level of CF-SLP, requiring Master's degree, SLP experience as stated above, and MD State Provisional SLP license (or ability to obtain the MD Provisional SLP license before hire date). CCC must be obtained within 1 year following hire, at which time the employee becomes eligible for upgrade to the SLP rate of pay.

* This position is subject to random drug testing

* This position is considered essential personnel in the event of a public health emergency

KIND OF EXAMINATION (may include):

1) An evaluation of training and experience

2) One or more interviews

3) A pre-employment physical examination and drug test

4) A pre-employment fingerprint supported background investigation
