Job Summary/Basic Function

Upward Bound Summer Academy Instructors are part-time temporary employees who will design and deliver lessons for a 6-week Summer Academy. Instruction will be face-to-face. Instructors should also demonstrate a wiliness to provide lab applications that align with Berkeley County Public School competencies and learning objectives during the fall of 2024. Instructors will be needed for the following courses: Literature/writing, math, science, Spanish and wellness. In addition to developing and delivering lessons in the core subject area, Summer Instructors will create a welcoming, interactive, and safe learning environment. Summer Instructors will also be responsible for course implementation, preparation, evaluation, data collecting, and grading. The Upward Bound Summer Academy will begin on Monday, June 13, 2024 and end on Friday, July 22, 2024. Instructor hours will be between 9am - 1pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

A Bachelor's degree in the specific academic discipline or secondary education is required; must have experience working with low-income and/or potential first generation college students and students of a diverse background. Skills and abilities - Excellent interpersonal and verbal skills; positive written communication skills; proficiency in computer applications, ability to work independently and accurately; and the ability to maintain confidentiality.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree in the specific academic discipline or secondary education is required; must have experience working with low-income and/or potential first generation college students and students of a diverse background. Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to individuals with experience working in or participating in a TRIO Program or have overcome barriers similar to those of potential first-generation college students.
