Job description

Schedule: In person, Monday through Friday.

Location: Candidates must be based in Baltimore, MD or willing to relocate to Baltimore, MD.

Please note that we will only consider candidates with unrestricted authorization to work in the United States for this position.

Who are we looking for?

Vectech is recruiting an early-career mechanical engineer with at least one year of professional experience in hardware. Candidates for the entry-level mechanical engineer position should have a solid foundation in mechanical engineering principles, including proficiency in CAD design software, basic technical analysis skills, and an understanding of material selection. Knowledge of general manufacturing processes and rapid prototyping/fabrication skills are also essential. Candidates should be able to work independently on projects, under supervision, and have an interest in contributing to public health initiatives. Understanding Vectech's business and the organizations we serve is important for this role.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in the design, fabrication, and testing of mechanical systems for innovative products in public and environmental health, working closely with a team of engineers, entomologists, and researchers.
  • Work on mechanical engineering projects under the guidance of senior engineers, following product requirements and ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Create designs and detailed drawings of product schematics using CAD tools with guidance from senior engineers.
  • Collaborate with the mechanical engineering team to build and test prototypes, and document engineering data and analyses.
  • Provide support to manufacturing teams with training and documentation, following engineering change management protocols under supervision.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and written grant deliverables with guidance.
  • Manage and maintain product and project files with supervision.
  • Attend weekly scrum meetings and design sessions.
  • Collaborate with project and product managers for resource allocation and tracking deadlines.
  • Demonstrate effective communication and teamwork in small groups.

Desired Experience / Skills
  • Bachelors, masters, or other technical training or experience in mechanical engineering
  • A minimum of at least 1 year of professional work experience as a mechanical engineer, which may be substituted with significant coop, internship, or research experiences.
  • Ability to contribute to meaningful industry projects under supervision
  • Some experience and proficiency in CAD software
  • Some experience with rapid prototyping and design concepts

What does Vectech do?

Vectech is an AI startup applying computer vision and other sensing technologies to collect insect information. Most of our work focuses on mosquitoes, ticks, and other disease-carrying insects. By automating challenging aspects of vector surveillance, we aim to alleviate bottlenecks and provide public health organizations with better data for vector control decision making.

$78,000-$93,000
