Registered Behavior Technician

Job Overview: The Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) in a school setting works under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) to implement behavior intervention plans and provide direct support to students with behavioral challenges or developmental disorders. The RBT assists in collecting data, implementing behavior reduction strategies, and teaching appropriate replacement behaviors in accordance with the student's individualized treatment plan.

Reports: The Registered Behavior Technician will report to the Board Certified Behavior Analyst

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Implement behavior intervention plans (BIPs) developed by the BCBA to address challenging behaviors and promote skill acquisition.
  • Provide one-on-one or small group support to students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), developmental delays, or other behavioral challenges in classroom and school settings.
  • Collect and record data on student behavior during intervention sessions to track progress and inform treatment planning.
  • Assist in the development of individualized educational and behavioral goals for students in collaboration with the BCBA and other members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Utilize evidence-based behavioral strategies, such as Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) techniques, to teach new skills and improve behavior management.
  • Collaborate with teachers, school administrators, and other professionals to integrate behavioral interventions into the student's educational program.
  • Maintain professional and ethical standards in accordance with the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) guidelines and school policies.
  • Participate in team meetings, training, and professional development activities to enhance skills and knowledge in behavior analysis and special education.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, caregivers, and other stakeholders to provide updates on student progress and collaborate on intervention strategies.
  • Adhere to confidentiality requirements when handling sensitive student information and maintaining professional boundaries.
Other
  • Attend and participate in weekly Special Education & Inclusion team meetings
  • Support school safety by assisting with student arrival and dismissal procedures

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor's degree in psychology, education, or related field preferred.
  • Certification as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) through the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) required.
  • Experience working with children or adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or other developmental disabilities preferred.
  • Knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles and techniques for behavior modification and skill acquisition.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams and communicate with diverse populations.
  • Ability to work independently and follow through on assigned tasks with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Commitment to professional development and ongoing learning in the field of behavior analysis and special education.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and environments within the school setting.

Other job details
  • Schedule:8 hour day, Monday - Friday
  • Location: Cook Campus (30 P St NW Washington, DC 20001) or Calle Ocho Campus (4401 8th St NE Washington, DC 20017)
  • Position Type: This is a 10-month salaried position which is exempt and therefore not eligible for overtime pay under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
  • Employment subject to TB test, fingerprinting and background check
Work conditions
  • Experience or certification in Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) techniques is preferred, as it ensures the ability to effectively manage and de-escalate high-stress situations, fostering a safe and supportive environment.
  • Work primarily takes place in school classrooms, therapy rooms, and other educational settings.
  • May involve working with students who exhibit challenging behaviors, including physical aggression or self-injurious behavior.
  • Potential exposure to loud noises, disruptive behavior, and environmental stimuli common in school environments.
  • Regular interaction with students, teachers, parents, and school staff in a collaborative team environment.
