General Summary of Position

Unit Highlights

Spinal Cord Injury Unit 2 West is a 38-bed rehabilitation unit that provides care to patients with a focus on spinal cord injury (SCI), orthopedics, burns, and amputees. The unit is the preferred site for SCI patients with flaps. Patients are admitted directly from out of state, outside hospitals, nursing homes, and homes.

Nurses on 2 West (Spinal Cord Injury) have the have the opportunity of working with and caring for this specialized patient population along with other members of the interdisciplinary team for safe quality care. Team members include physicians, psychologists, physical and occupational therapists, speech therapists, wound and ostomy care nurses, social workers, and case managers. Growth opportunities include CRRN/ARN or Med Surg certification. Collaboration with multidisciplinary team and care for a specialized patient population (SCI)

Key Responsibilities

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is a key member of the interdisciplinary team to deliver patient-centered rehabilitation nursing services to individuals with a disability and/or chronic illness to attain and maintain maximum function. The rehabilitation LPN assists patients in adapting to an altered lifestyle, while providing a therapeutic environment for client's and their family's development. The rehabilitation LPN designs and implements treatment strategies based on scientific nursing theory related to self-care and promotes physical, psychosocial, and spiritual health.

The LPN must be compassionate towards patients and family members, be able to work in a fast-paced environment, excellent communication skills and work in a team of various medical professionals. The LPN perform in roles as Teachers, Caregivers, Collaborators and Client Advocates. As a member of an interdisciplinary team, you will add "Life to Years" for the patients you will serve.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Practical Nursing required.

  • Minimum of one (1) year experience required. New graduates considered based on student clinical experiences.
