Public Citizen is a national, non-partisan, public interest group with more than 500,000 members and supporters. We hold the government and corporations accountable with campaigns and advocacy before Congress, administrative agencies, and the courts, on issues including money in politics, open government, financial regulation, energy and the climate crisis, fair trade, consumer protection, access to justice, tax policy, workplace safety, drug and medical device safety, healthcare, and more. Public Citizen s Climate Program is advocating for corporate accountability in the insurance and auto manufacturing industries, and for financial policy that advances the transition away from fossil fuels and promotes rather than impedes racial, economic, and intergenerational justice.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Public Citizen s Climate Program is seeking an experienced and committed campaigner and supervisor to hold automakers accountable for their role in the climate crisis by ensuring accountability, transparency, environmental safeguards, and respect for human rights throughout their supply chains.

This position combines program and project management, corporate campaigning, organizing, coalition building, outreach skills, and strong personnel managerial skills. The right candidate will be a sharp strategic thinker, creative tactician, and skilled campaigner, both digitally and offline.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Serve as the lead campaigner on Public Citizen s supply chain campaign. Develop and execute an auto supply chain corporate campaign strategy to advocate for equitable, sustainable, and fossil free auto supply chains.
  • Collaborate closely with Climate Program colleagues and partners to develop strategies and tactics for Public Citizen and allied organizations to pursue to advance our campaign goals. This includes ensuring cohesive and complementary campaign strategies that uplift Public Citizen s zero-emissions corporate campaign targeting Toyota and our green steel campaign targeting Ford.
  • Help recruit and supervise staff, volunteers, and contractors.
  • Develop high-level contacts and relationships in key organizations and institutions and collaborate with groups and coalitions engaged in this work.
  • Develop materials such as talking points, corporate analyses, and reports as needed.
  • Coordinate digital actions including email actions, paid advertising, and social media tactics.
  • Serve as the spokesperson for the campaign.
  • Identify opportunities to message or engage in actions around trade shows, sponsored events, etc., and plan and execute our activities.
  • Assist with fundraising, including grantwriting and grant tracking.
  • Support other campaigns and projects as needed, and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Occasional travel required.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • At least seven years of relevant campaign management experience and 2 years of relevant personnel management experience.
  • Commitment to centering diversity, equity, and inclusion in campaign planning, strategies, tactics, and execution.
  • Commitment to ending the climate crisis, particularly by advancing zero-emissions vehicles and reducing environmental and social harms in the auto supply chain, and to advancing racial and economic justice.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with public speaking experience and experience producing fact sheets, talking points, and analyses within a campaign setting.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, respond to short-term deadlines, balance multiple responsibilities, and maintain accuracy and attention to detail.

SALARY AND BENEFITS: Competitive salary and benefit package. This is a grant-contingent position. Below is a list of some of our benefits (please note that some benefits have eligibility requirements).

Salary range: $98,226 to $127,060

Benefits include:
