Duties

As a/an Physician, you will:

* Provide direct services to patients within a residential unit and/or outpatient medical clinic.

* Lead medical care and plan the medical management for residents of assigned unit.

* Complete acute encounters, annual history and physicals, and make level of care transfers as indicated.

* Manage patient care to include specialty referrals, refilling/renewing prescriptions, and providing primary and secondary preventative maintenance care.

* Maintain active membership and participation in Healthcare committees.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Basic Requirements

License: Candidates must have a permanent, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

AND

Degree: Degree must be a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy from a school in the United States or Canada approved by a recognized accrediting body (such as Liaison Committee on Medical Education [LCME]) in the year of the applicant's graduation. A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school that provided education and medical knowledge substantially equivalent to accredited schools in the United States may be demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG).

AND

Graduate Training: Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy degree, a candidate must have had at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in an institution accredited for such training. For purposes of this standard, graduate training programs include only those internship, residency, and fellowship programs that are approved by accrediting bodies recognized within the United States or Canada. Listings of accredited programs are published yearly in the Directory of Residency Training Programs and the Yearbook and Directory of Osteopathic Physicians.

AND

Experience: In addition to meeting the basic requirements above, applicants must have 3 years of graduate training or equivalent experience and training.

AND

Physician's must maintain credentials and privileging at the AFRH Gulfport Campus as outlined in AFRH Directives and policies and must have and maintain current Drug Enforcement Agency certificate. Must have and maintain current American Heart Association - Basic Life Support (AHA BLS) certification.

SPECIAL NOTE: Long-term care experience and/or interacting with geriatric patients is highly desired.

Education

Education Requirements: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges ; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

Degree from Foreign Medical School: A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must provide education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

* Selectees will be subject to the AFRH Tuberculosis Surveillance Program.

* Wear required safety clothing and/or equipment required by the position. This may include safety shoes, hard hats, hearing protection, gloves, masks, etc.

* Because the AFRH's mission requires uninterrupted, direct human support and medical care for its Residents, this position is considered essential for continuing AFRH operations. Therefore, the incumbent is expected to arrive for duty on time, as scheduled, and to complete the assigned tour during emergency situations such as hazardous weather.

The AFRH ethics program promotes the highest standards of ethical conduct for all employees. As a federal employee, you will be subject to the Standards of Ethical Conduct, and the U.S. criminal conflict of interest statutes. As an AFRH employee, you will also be subject to the AFRH Supplemental Ethics Regulations which restrict the extent to which a AFRH employee can engage in certain activities and hold certain investments.
