Job Overview

ASM is seeking a dynamic and proactive professional to drive the development of strategic partnerships in India. This individual will play a pivotal role in enhancing ASM's presence in the Indian scientific community, focusing on establishing contacts, orchestrating collaborative events, and growing the reputation and reach of ASM Journals within the region.

Essential Functions (defines the critical end results expected of the jobholder related to the accountabilities above)

  1. Partnership Development: Identify and cultivate relationships with leading research institutions, scientific organizations, and scientists in India to establish collaborative annual events and initiatives.
  2. Editorial Network Expansion: Contribute to the growth of ASM Journals in India by recommending potential editors, board members, advisors, and referees.
  3. Market Research and Analysis: Monitor publishing trends, research developments, funding opportunities, and open access initiatives within the Indian scientific landscape.
  4. Event Planning and Coordination: Oversee the planning and execution of scientific conferences and symposia, including theme selection, speaker invitation, and logistics management.
  5. Stakeholder Engagement: Act as ASM's representative to local stakeholders, including editors, authors, and reviewers, providing support, and fostering strong relationships.
  6. Strategy Development: Formulate and implement a growth strategy for ASM in India, with a focus on open access journals and scientific outreach.
  7. Scientific Outreach Support: Assist in organizing and conducting scientific outreach efforts, such as webinars and teleconferences.

Physical Demands

This is largely a sedentary role and may sit or use PC for long periods of time. Bending, reaching or stooping may be necessary for use of filing cabinets or other office cabinets or office machines. This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computer, phones, copiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Travel Requirements

Expected to travel 20%-24%.

Required Education and Experience

  1. Masters's Degree or equivalent required. PhD preferred, but not essential.


Five or more years of experience with the following:

  1. Knowledge of the Scientific Landscape: Familiarity with the life sciences research ecosystem in India.
  2. Experience in Scientific Publishing: Prior experience in growing STM (Scientific, Technical, and Medical) journal content and community engagement.
  3. Cultural Competence: Sensitivity to cultural differences and an understanding of the academic and scientific context in India.


Additional Information

1.Location: This position requires the candidate to be based in India, with frequent travel to various research institutions within the country.

2.Collaboration: The role involves close collaboration with ASM's team in Washington DC, and local partners in India
