Position Requirements

Your role in helping us shape the future:

We are looking for a Sr. Data Engineer to work on all stages of data warehouse development with a focus on Python ETL development. By specializing in data extraction and loading using Python, this role will help build our large-scale custom data platform.

We offer a casual work environment. Our offices are in the Georgetown neighborhood of Washington, D.C. We are also open to having this role work anywhere in the U.S.

Are you up to the challenge?

As a Sr. Data Engineer with a focus on Python ETL, you will create robust and resilient data pipelines that ingest data from a variety of sources, including cloud storage, relational databases, unstructured data, and third-party APIs. These pipelines will stage and format the data, then load it into a cloud data warehouse. Once in the warehouse, data will be transformed and joined with other data sources. The resulting data structures will be optimized for analytics and other activations. Reporting, visualizations, advanced analytics, and outbound integrations will be built on top of the transformed data.

You should definitely have:
  • 5 - 8 years experience
  • College -with major STEM discipline (Bachelors Degree)
  • Demonstrated experience writing Python for data engineering tasks
  • Practical experience with AWS, especially using Lambda and S3 for data extraction and loading
  • Strong understanding of ETL / ELT concepts and exposure to a range of data pipeline tools
  • Experience working with cloud data warehouses such as BigQuery (strongly preferred), Snowflake, or Redshift
  • Familiarity with relational databases, as they relate to extracting and loading data, especially PostgreSQL
  • Knowledge of data modeling techniques such as star schemas
It would be nice if you had:
  • Ability to write SQL for both ETL transformations and reporting
  • Experience with dbt
  • Some experience with AI and ML services such as Google Cloud Data Lab or Cloud ML engines or similar services in AWS or Azure
  • Exposure to and understanding of Google Analytics and Google Ad Manager data
  • Expertise with Google Cloud Platform, especially its data-centric tools like BigQuery, Cloud Functions, Cloud Storage, Dataflow, Dataprep, Looker, and DataStudio
  • Experience with version control, such as Git
  • Experience with Unix-based operating systems, such as Linux or Mac OS X, along with the shells and command-line tools available in those environments

  • In New York City, the anticipated base salary for this position is $90,000 - $130,000 . The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, interview performance, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
