Position Summary

TaxAct is seeking a visionary Senior UX Designer who is prepared and excited to tackle some deep, thorny design problems, and find elegant solutions to improve customers' experiences and drive measurable business outcomes.

From brainstorming through implementation, the Senior UX Designer will lead to the transformation of our TaxAct consumer tax preparation offering. In this role, you will work closely with other members of the growing UX team, as well as the product management, engineering, and marketing teams. The ideal candidate can quickly grasp and distill highly complex matters into clean, understandable solutions. The position requires strong communication and organizational skills, as well as experience leveraging user research and analytics to make data-driven decisions. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, the Senior UI UX Designer must be able to successfully execute each of the following duties:
  • Develop, manage, build, package, and maintain a web UI component library with HTML, SCSS, Vue.js
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams (designers, developers and product managers/owners) to provide consistent UI components, patterns, layouts, DO's/Dont's practices and scalable SVG. icons in Design System.
  • Manage design pattern libraries and adhere to established patterns when designing new features and products.
  • Discovery - facilitate and participate in discovery for digital experiences beginning with low fidelity concepts, storyboards and iterating to prototypes and high-fidelity end concepts maintaining a vision for the product throughout the process, and always keeping the customers' needs at the forefront.
  • Design - Translate both abstract and tactical requirements into finished designs. Create context diagrams, site maps, wireframes and task-flow diagrams.
  • Rapid Prototyping - quickly test with users and adapt a design with Agile methodology (fail fast & succeed faster)
  • Conceptualize a broad spectrum of ideas and then narrow based on experimentation and customer research.
  • Advance a strong point of view, backed up by personal expertise, design rationale, customer data, and industry trends.
  • Create UX design deliverables such as process flows, wireframes, mockups, and functional prototypes to effectively communicate design strategies and detailed interaction behaviors.
  • Conduct expert reviews and usability assessments on existing and future application features, and design creative solutions for known usability and user experience issues.
  • Use and champion Design Thinking ensuring that every project starts with customer needs, strategy and a well-defined problem to solve.
  • Create all typical outputs for a UX designer, including wireframes, storyboards, journey maps, prototypes, production-ready interface designs and assets, and impeccable whiteboard sketches.
  • Help lead your cross-functional team through customer discovery sessions and tease out the insights and business drivers that will shape delightful customer experiences and products.
  • Collaborate with designers, product managers, engineers, and stakeholders to develop innovative solutions that improve the lives of customers and meet business needs.
  • Design digital products across multiple channels and platforms, including mobile and online.
  • Follow best practices and standards for accessibility and cross-browser compatibility.
  • Understand the limitations of our tech stack and business model and provide technical advice wherever necessary.
  • Advocate for the customer's best interest when it comes to decisions for new and updated features and products.
  • Assist with user testing and gather actionable insights for design adjustments and improvements.


Education and Experiences
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Graphic Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience as a front-end UI developer, hybrid interaction designer, product designer, graphic designer, or similar role.
  • Proficient understanding of web markup, including HTML5, Vue.js, CSS3, server-side CSS pre-processing platforms, SCSS.
  • Proficient understanding of cross-browser compatibility issues and ways to work around them.
  • Proficient understanding of user-centered design principles, visual designs, user research and responsive/mobile-first design for the web.
  • Experience with performant, scalable, and maintainable web UI architecture used in web/mobile applications.
  • Experience with NPM packaging, continuous integration, builds, and Git version control.
  • Strong visual thinking skills, including sketching, and interactive prototyping
  • Ability to translate UX designs into reusable web UI components using vue.js and other modern JavaScript frameworks.
  • An online portfolio of work samples demonstrating a range of components developed in creating a variety of stunning user-centered design solutions for mobile and online.
  • Fluency in best practices for mobile and web-based information architecture and responsive design, as well as deep and broad knowledge of usability principles and techniques.
  • Proficiency with common design tools such as Sketch, Adobe Creative Suite (e.g. Illustrator, Photoshop etc.), InVision, HTML, CSS, etc.
  • Strong comfort level with an iterative and collaborative design process.
  • A deep appreciation for simple solutions to complex problems.
  • Experience conducting user research and usability tests that deliver actionable insights for design.
  • Strong bias for action and the ability to juggle multiple priorities and effectively deliver in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Willingness to work hard and do what's necessary to meet team goals.
  • Experience creating style guides, pattern libraries, and other design solutions that drive design across organizations.
