Sheehy Auto Stores is seeking an Assistant Controller to join our team. As the Assistant Controller, you will play a pivotal role in assisting the Controller in overseeing financial activities and ensuring the integrity of financial operations by examining and analyzing the accounting records of organizations. Responsible for ensuring data and reporting accuracy and compliance with established accounting standards and procedures. Assistant Controllers will be expected to maintain internal controls and assist the Controller with month-end and year-end processes, among other duties.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee tasks to ensure that financial functions are reconciled monthly, including (but not limited to) cash, accounts receivables, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, accounts payable, manufacturer statements, payroll administration, vehicle deal commissioning, and inter-company accounts.
  • Meet all monthly, quarterly, and annual deadlines as required, Including monthly reconciliations, quarterly reporting, etc.
  • Work closely with the Controller and General Managers to ensure all their financial and accounting needs are met and relevant analysis is performed.
  • Lead, mentor, and coach an accounting team, including planning, assigning, scheduling, and reviewing of work, ensuring quality standards are met.
  • Assist with the assigned team's training process and ongoing development to ensure understanding and compliance with the accounting DMS, accounting policies, controls, reporting timelines, and procedures.
  • Reinforces company policies and adheres to all company standards. Maintains and inspects for compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Review the reconciliation of general ledger accounts with outside sources to ensure proper bank reconciliation, reserve accounts, factory payable, and floor plan payable.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Someone who not only can help oversee the Accounting Department but is actively involved in the operation
  • Experience with Reynolds/Ignite or CDK. Complete knowledge of all aspects of the automotive accounting department
  • Excellent computer skills; Experience in Google Platform and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and experience in developing a competent team
  • Able to work well with Managers as well as mentor/lead other team members
  • Able to work under pressure and prioritize
  • Authorized to work in the USA
  • Ability to pass pre-employment testing to include background checks, MVR, and drug test

Education and Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in a dealership accounting office.
  • 3+ years of experience as an Office Manager, Assistant Controller or Controller for an automotive dealership.

Physical Requirement:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Occasional bending and standing
