Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a STEMM Opportunity Alliance (SOA) Project Manager to join our Inclusive STEMM Ecosystems for Equity & Diversity (ISEED) department!

TheProject Managerwill support the STEMM Opportunity Alliance (SOA) initiative. The SOA is a new national initiative, led by AAAS, seeking to create an equitable and inclusive STEMM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medicine) ecosystem to reach parity in STEMM by 2050. AAAS serves as the backbone organization of the SOA, which is leading an alliance of organizations in creating and implementing a national strategy for STEMM equity and excellence.

In this role they will work closely with the SOA Director and a Program Manager to provide day-to-day project management for the SOA, carrying out the tactics necessary to realize the strategic goals of the initiative. They will coordinate regular leadership and project team meetings, support the implementation of the National Strategy by SOA partners, be responsible for day-to-day project logistics, and manage a system to track progress toward annual goals. They will also participate in the strategic decision-making of the SOA staff team and Advisory Council and will work collaboratively with other ISEED staff, such as staff dedicated to meeting logistics and communications. The Project Manager serves as a resource for all SOA partners.

What You ll Do

Implementation of the SOA National Strategy via Partnership EngagementDevelop relationships with anchor organizations and support workstream coordination and leadership.Coordinates the engagement and implementation of partner organizations in the workstreams.Manages a system to track progress toward annual, mid-term and long-term goals in each workstream.Support coordination of efforts across workstreams.Lead the coordination and logistics for SOA in-person and virtual events. Example: SOA is expected to co-host 6 single-day, in-person events in 2024.SOA ManagementCoordinate regular team (weekly), Advisory Council (2-3/year), and partner (Quarterly) meetings including collaborative agenda-setting.Contribute to discussions of goals, objectives and strategies.Develop tactics to accomplish goals and objectives discussed in staff and leadership meetings.Alliance OperationsCoordinate an annual project calendar, ensuring that activities and deliverables are completed in a timely manner.Support SOA communication staff as they develop and implement the SOA communication strategy, including monthly newsletters, social media accounts, and blog series.Respond to inquiries from SOA partners and external stakeholders.Collaborate with AAAS philanthropy office to track progress toward annual funding goals.Support budget tracking, review and process invoices, and travel reimbursements.

Minimum Qualifications

A minimum of a bachelor s degree and at least three years professional work experience in program coordination of multi-year, complex projects with multiple priorities, partners, and deliverables.Experience working with cross-sector partners (e.g., education, workforce, government) and strategies to cultivate shared goals, metrics, and bold collaborations.Prior contributions to or knowledge of systemic change strategies.Experience with verbal and written communication of project and research results to multiple audiences.Advanced project management skills.Ability to handle multiple priorities, partners, and deliverables.Ability to translate strategic vision into tactical actions.Ability to monitor activities of staff, collaborators, and consultants.Strong attention to detail.Strong collaboration skills.Excellent written, verbal communication, and analytical skills with a particular ability to synthesize clear and concise information from a wide array of sources.Knowledge of contemporary software packages and online platforms.Comfortable in assuming risks, problem-solving, and recommending courses of action.

The anticipated initial rate of compensation for this position is between $70,000 and $85,000 per year. AAAS currently provides the following benefits for this position: paid vacation leave, paid sick leave, paid holidays, health insurance, flexible spending account, dental insurance, life insurance, vision insurance, retirement benefits, short- and long-term disability, and life insurance, each subject to the terms of the applicable program. Additional benefits may apply.
