Student Caf Executive Officer (SCEO)
Reports to: Head of Area Operations
Status: 6 months Full-Time
Job purpose: As the SCEO of a Saxbys caf for six-months you will gain invaluable experience operating a caf, developing a team, becoming a community leader, and an expert in business fundamentals. You will have the full support and resources of the Saxbys team, however you will have unparalleled ownership of the entrepreneurial process of operating this business.
Summary of duties and responsibilities:
Team Development: Student CEOs actively lead and develop a team of their peers. It is the responsibility of the SCEO to keep their team engaged with the Saxbys mission and culture, and to provide feedback and coaching to individual team:
Ascertain the training needs and offer appropriate coaching and direction to the team while providing regular feedback
Complete caf-level Human Resources responsibilities including progressive discipline, payroll, and separations
Partner with Talent Development department to identify and assist with the development of the internal talent pipeline
Work with the Recruiting team to identify ways to bring in new talent to their cafes
Conduct monthly One-on-Ones with team members to discuss development opportunities
Identify creative ways to constantly engage and retain their team members
Conduct monthly team lead Meetings and quarterly team meetings to discuss strategic updates
Communicate regularly through verbal and written communication (weekly team emails and team meetings) to make sure all team members are aware of the caf's goals and objects
Community Leadership: Student CEOs act as servant leaders and identify opportunities to engage guests constantly through exceptional hospitality. Building a business that serves as a community cornerstone, is an integral learning objective as a SCEO:
Develop and lead community relationships to ensure that your Saxbys caf is an integral part of the community that it serves
Plan and execute (in-caf events) community outreach initiatives to drive top line sales
Work with the Social Impact Manager to support Saxbys social impact mission of education and opportunity by utilizing the caf to hold events and partner with local organizations
Instill and maintain a culture of hospitality and servant leadership
Utilize public speaking skills to promote the SCEO role by speaking to university classes and student organizations on campus
Create locally-driven marketing plans that engage the community
Effectively support and execute seasonal product roll outs
Strengthen public relations skills by participating in media training to properly communicate Saxbys' Experiential Learning Program and Culture
Financial Management: Student CEOs are taught to master the details that impact a business' Profit & Loss statement. Student CEOs will:
Learn and apply best practices to drive four-wall profitability
Work with their Head of Area Operations to identify opportunities to meet and exceed sales goals and use operational tools to monitor costs to increase profitability
Assist with the development and implementation of policies and procedures to enhance operational efficiency
Monitor and report on caf staffing levels to achieve and maintain the operational requirements while meeting or exceeding labor goals
Analyze and manage Profit and Loss Statements by completing Weekly Financial Reviews and reporting to the executive and accounting teams on labor, inventory management, and top line sales
Operational Support: Student CEOs will provide support by working alongside baristas and team leads to ensure efficient caf operations. SCEOs will:
Assist in the preparation and service of menu drinks and food items
Ensure ServSafe standards are upheld to maintain caf cleanliness including all service spaces, guest seating areas, and bathroom facilities
Appropriately execute administrative work to support caf operations:
Manage cash by preparing daily cash deposits
Monitor and manage product availability and waste through inventory counts
Take lead on ordering and invoicing for product and supplies
Create weekly schedules to ensure appropriate labor per caf volume
Ensure the safety of the caf, guests, and team members
