We invite you to be part of our innovative team!To plan and carry out a therapeutically designed physical education program to meet the social, emotional, cognitive/conceptual, and physical needs of emotionally disturbed students in the program.Skills/Responsibilities:I. InstructionThis task is completed when:a) integrated, thematic lessons are provided which are congruent with the ASPIRE components of the primary school curriculum;b) proficiency in the assessment of children's motor development is demonstrated;c) proficiency in writing gross motor reports for physical education/motor development summaries, behavioral observations, and report cards are demonstrated ;d) appropriate behavior management techniques are applied;e) extracurricular activities to help further enhance the physical, social, and emotional abilities of students are provided;f) purchasing of appropriate motor development equipment is demonstrated.II. Teamwork:This task is completed when:a. team tasks are delineated and effectively carried outb. external support for unique student situations is soughtc. the team embraces the holistic delivery of servicesd. effective communication with other team members is carried oute. parent, and significant others are involved as a partner in thestudent's educational programIII. Documentation and Case Coordination:This task is completed when:a. documentation related to regulatory, licensing, and funding bodies isfinished in a thorough and timely mannerb. agency-related documentation, such as team meeting minutes, progresssummaries, IEP's, report cards, behavior observations, high risk andabuse reports, correspondence, etc. is completed in a thorough andtimely manner.IV. Professional development:The task is completed when:a. the personal staff development plan is executedb. certification and continuing education requirements are metExpectations for the position:I. Demonstrated understanding of the philosophy and mission of The Children'sGuild.a. Successful completion of the Pre-service Training Programb. Successful completion and demonstrated competency with the prescribed behavior management program.II. Minimum Expectations are achieved, i.e.,a. participation in re-enforcement activities such as specials, clubs, etc.b. regular attendance adhering to work schedulec. participation on committees as neededQualificationsEducation and/or Experience This position requires a Bachelors degree or Masters degree from an accredited college or university d certified by the Maryland State Department of Education in the area of Physical Education preferred (mandatory if serving high school students). A minimum of at least two years of teaching experience in special education is highly preferred. Experience in developing and implementing the IEP using assessment data is also preferred.Certificates, Licenses, Registrations The individual must hold a valid teaching certification for the subject area or be eligible for certification by the Maryland State Department of Education in the area of special education.
