Minimum Qualifications

Education

Bachelor s degree in Environmental Design, Graphic Design, Architecture or related field

Experience

A minimum of seven (7) years of demonstrated experience in wayfinding projects, design acumen, and an expertise in navigation/place making; strong collaboration amongst departments and cross-matrix management; experience leading a team

Certification/Licensure

Valid Driver s LicenseRoadway Worker Protection (RWP) Certification, Level 2, withing 3 months of entering job and maintained for the duration of time in the job

Preferred

Experience in real estate, construction, etc with an emphasis on Signage & Wayfinding design

Summary

The Product Manager, Wayfinding & Service Information is charged with creating a better passenger experience by leading the design and implementation of navigation systems to help customers orient themselves and navigate in and around Metro and connecting regional services including bus, bike, commuter rail, walking and other mobility options.

The Product Manager utilizes design elements consisting of colors, symbols, sounds, and landmarks to create intuitive placemaking and user-friendly, in-person and digital environments, using a portfolio of tools like signage, maps, displays, apps and augmented reality. This incumbent boost brand identity and helps create a sense of space by collaborating with planners, architects, designers, engineers and other stakeholders to ensure any wayfinding and service information is consistent, accessible and effective.

Essential Functions

Defines and prioritizes wayfinding improvements across the Metro system including Metrorail, Metrobus, MetroAccess, regional connections and mobility access, in coordination with Planning & Architecture.Develops and implements wayfinding improvements designed to create consistency and improve quality of information which can scale to a long-term wayfinding improvement program across the Authority and region.Works with stakeholders across Metro and the region to identify opportunities to create a wholistic wayfinding system; support the building, prioritizing, and executing of the team's roadmap and backlog; and communicates updates to key stakeholders.Oversees the development and updates of static, digital, and temporary wayfinding guidelines to ensure consistent, comprehensive packages are created for temporary wayfinding needs. Develops guidelines with the support of communications and marketing to ensure consistent language, timing, channels, and placements.Directs the development of and implements consistent templates and styles for visual and audio communications that are easily understandable, informative, and friendly.Leads the creation of temporary wayfinding signage plans, ongoing projects, events, and development projects; development and adherence to data-based standards for the timing and mediums wayfinding that maximize awareness and satisfaction.Creates, manages, and standardizes the wayfinding QA/QC and change control process to ensure information is named effectively with consistent abbreviations and that signage is free from typos and other errors.Collaborates across the agency - Planning, Digital Modernization, Information Technology, Communications, Operations, Engineering - to ensure accurate, consistent wayfinding across all customer touchpoint.Troubleshoots and works with vendors and internal teams from project inception and through to resolution. Documents and prioritizes system bugs and serves as an internal subject-matter expert on wayfinding, navigation, customer journey, intermodal connectivity.Facilitates and advocates for user research and testing, and customer-centric design. Identifies research needs and implements or works with designers and researchers to implement.Develops, monitors, and manages project plans, timelines, and budgets in collaboration with team members and stakeholders. Communicates project updates to team members, stakeholders, and clients. Identifies and mitigates project risks and develop contingency plans.
