Job description

The Office of the Attorney General for the District of Columbia (OAG) is seeking a dedicated Trial Attorney to enforce the District s workers rights statutes and to investigate and litigate claims under the D.C. False Claims Act. The attorney will be a member of the Workers Rights and Antifraud Section of the Public Advocacy Division, which investigates and litigates civil cases to combat fraud against the District as well as to vindicate the rights of District workers and to hold employers accountable for violations of District law, including wage theft, worker misclassification, and unlawful denials of sick leave. The Workers Rights and Antifraud Section also works with community groups, advocacy organizations, and District government agencies to identify and address employment law violations in the District.Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe successful candidate will investigate, develop, and litigate workers rights and False Claims Act cases against entities that violate District law; help develop a robust enforcement strategy to deter violations and encourage compliance in target industries; and engage in community outreach. Duties of the position will include identifying areas for investigation, conducting pre-suit discovery using compulsory process and informal methods, working with expert witnesses, taking depositions, document review and analysis of complex factual and legal issues, negotiating settlements, drafting internal memoranda, preparing matters for litigation, litigating cases through trial in D.C. Superior Court, engaging in community outreach and education, assisting with claims administration, and coordinating efforts with other District, state, and federal enforcement agencies.QUALIFICATIONS:Trial Attorney, LA-0905-12A minimum of two (2) years of litigation experience is preferred. The candidate should have civil litigation experience, as well as excellent analytical, writing, and litigation skills. Specific experience in False Claims Act work and employment law is preferred but not required.Trial Attorney, LA-0905-13A minimum of five (5) years of litigation experience is preferred. The candidate should have civil litigation experience, as well as excellent analytical, writing, and litigation skills.
