Job description

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor s degree in a specialized area; or equivalent is required plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.

The successful LINUX Systems Administrator should have:

  • Knowledge of Linux systems
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6/7 experience
  • Understanding of security concepts with hands-on experience in implementing security controls and compliance requirements
  • Troubleshooting experience
  • Networking experience
  • Customer service experience
  • Responsive Help Desk experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Data Center experience
  • Computer security background (Government requirement) is desirable
  • Experience with virtualization technologies
  • Expert knowledge of implementing patch management for Red Hat Enterprise Linux and MS Windows based systems from a centralized management solution
  • Solid scripting skills; developing, maintaining custom shell scripts, able to troubleshoot scripts related to PowerShell, Bourne, C shell, Korn or Perl
  • Experience deploying, operating, monitoring, patching, troubleshooting Linux Hosts
  • NFS, SAMBA, AD/LDAP integration, Web Servers, Tomcat, LVM, YUM, and Linux security hardening
  • Able to install Linux servers, troubleshoot hardware/software installation and basic networking issues
  • Basic familiarity with BASH Scripting, kickstart deployments
  • Basic familiarity with Red Hat Satellite Server technologies
  • Basic familiarity with configuring Storage Area Network connectivity over Fiber Channel

Clearance Requirements:

This position requires a minimum of an active TS/SCI clearance. Must be willing and able to obtain a polygraph within a reasonable amount of time after hire, with acceptable timing determined by manager. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate openings for a LINUX Systems Administrator supporting multiple locations: San Antonio, Texas; Layton, Utah; Chantilly, Virginia. These positions provide an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation s core defense/intelligence services and systems. General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Red Hat LINUX command line administration
  • Trusted Network Environment (TNE) Pitbull command line administration
  • Command level troubleshooting of OS and associated hardware/software
  • Create and resolve helpdesk action items
  • Manage cross domain enterprise level solutions
  • Provide on-site technical solutions
  • Install, move and or break-down systems
  • Create detailed technical reports and metrics
  • Provide detailed technical solutions
  • Perform system builds
  • Maintain the security and stability of cross domain solutions
  • Interact with customers
  • Create, modify, and remove user accounts
  • Perform Linux audit and reporting tasks
  • Command level Database troubleshooting, including SQL, skills highly desirable
  • Must be able to perform scheduled and unscheduled fly away support
  • Setting up and managing Linux systems, applications and environments and ensuring those systems comply with government security standards
  • Apache web server administration and configuration
  • Maintains High Availability infrastructure ensuring security compliances and high level performance while minimizing service interruption
  • Provide network systems securities through policy enforcement and monitoring access
  • Assists in the design of multi-server environments including IP address schemes, DNS, WINS etc
  • Troubleshooting network hardware and software applications, OS upgrades, and security systems to resolve operational issues and restore services

The successful LINUX Systems Administrator must have:

  • Microsoft Office product experience
  • Excellent communications skills
  • Scripting experience
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Data Center experience

Applicants must meet DoD 8570.1 certification requirements for IAT-II or higher

  • Must be able to travel up to 20% of the time CONUS and OCONUS, scheduled and unscheduled with short notice
  • Must be able to support rotating morning shifts (8 AM 5 PM and 6AM 3PM)
