Job description

Status: Full-Time Hourly FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt

Summary of Position: Serve as credible messenger to participants. The Outreach Worker will work to build ongoing relationships of trust with participants, community, and the highest risk people, so that they will be available to deliver services. They work in the community to prevent shootings and intervene when violence is likely, including possible retaliation.

Duties of the Outreach Workers included but are not limited to:

  • Take actions to prevent shootings in assigned community by building trust and relationships.
  • Create risk reduction plans.
  • Bring awareness to community about violence reduction efforts.
  • Notify the violence interruption team of incidents of potential violence, work to intervene in circumstances where violence is probable and possible retaliation.
  • Assist to mediating situations and preventing retaliation between individuals and groups.
  • Identify hot spots for shootings and violence and document shootings and other acts of violence that are prevented.
  • Respond to shootings in other communities, when necessary,
  • Obtain information around casual factors of a shooting.
  • Meet with the site supervisor regularly to receive and share updates and provide information.
  • Work as a team to ensure reduction in shootings.
  • Participate in organizing responses to shootings and increase visibility when shootings/killings take place and develop networks with other outreach programs workers to coordinate efforts.
  • Conduct outreach activities with the community to build strong relationships with youth, residents, businesses, and community groups.
  • Identify youth at-risk to join gains and implement case management to aid solving current issues and prevent future problems.
  • Link individuals to services and opportunities in the community.
  • Advocate for the youth in court, when needed and keep detailed participant case notes and documentation.
Qualifications/Requirements: Minimum High School Diploma or GED Equivalent. Experience working with at-risk youth and adults.

Demonstrate excellent communication and writing proficiency.

Experience and/or training in crisis intervention and knowledge of community resources and access points into services.

Position requires reliable transportation, valid driver s license, and current auto insurance coverage.
