Job description

TITLE: Geriatric Nursing Assistant : Nursing Supervised by: Director of Nursing, Unit Managers (if applicable), Charge Nurses

As a Geriatric Nursing Assistant in our Nursing department, you will provide care for residents under the direction and supervision of a licensed nurse. QUALIFICATIONS:
Must meet OBRA guidelines for Geriatric Nursing Assistant training and certification. Must maintain certification in good standing.
Must abide by confidentiality protocols. Must have the ability to lift 50 lbs. by yourself, or more with assistance, using proper body mechanics

. Must be able to stretch arms above head and bend to pick up objects from the floor. Must be punctual for scheduled shifts.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Bathe and dress residents, provide dental care, brush teeth or apply dentures. Assure that residents are appropriately and comfortably clothed, make beds, set rooms in order, water flowers, and fill water pitchers. Assist patients to and from the bathroom or offer bedpans, change linens as often as necessary, and assist in the bowel and bladder training program. Assist residents with menu selection, check diet trays with diet orders before serving trays, and supervise residents while eating. Assist with and/or perform procedures that have been assigned, such as admitting, transferring, and discharging residents, taking and recording vital signs, measuring and recording intake and output, and collecting specimens. Assist with end-of-life care and restorative and rehabilitative care, such as instructions in self-help, applying and removing splints. Recognize residents rights and abide by the Resident Bill of Rights at all times. Attend 12 hours of in-service and staff meetings yearly. Adhere to the standards and practices set forth in the Corporate Compliance Code of Conduct and our organization's Policies and Procedures covering Privacy and Procedures and Security in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
