This assignment is a full-time, one-year assignment, although an extended time period is possible but not guaranteed. This position may, over time, accommodate a hybrid work schedule based on the following:

  • First 3 months - 5 days on-site
  • Once 3 months is complete - 1 day Work From Home (WFH)
  • Once 6 months is complete - 2 days WFH
  • Once 9 months is complete - 3 days WFH

Our customer is the Software Engineering department in the United States Postal Service. We are seeking a Senior Network Engineer to provide the implementation, maintenance, and integration of the network infrastructure that supports the processing US mail and packages within various postal processing facilities across the country. This individual will also be responsible for implementation and administration of network security hardware and software, enforcing the network security policy and complying with requirements of external security audits and recommendations.
Essential Functions:
  • Familiarity with all layers of OSI model and network communication protocols.
  • Ability to configure and deploy Cisco Catalyst switches.
  • Strong experience working within Layer 2 and troubleshooting Spanning Tree issues.
  • Working knowledge of IP address management and subnetting.
  • Architect, design, and engineer high-level network solutions in a complex network infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with routers and routing protocols.
  • Provide Tier 3 help desk support for resolving complex network problems involving multiple applications and organizations.
  • Experience configuring SPAN sessions and using packet capture software (i.e. Wireshark) to troubleshoot network issues.
  • Extensive knowledge of MS Excel, Word, and Visio.

Required Education and Experience:
  • Familiarity with all layers of OSI model and network communication protocols and working knowledge of Cisco hardware.
  • At least 5 years hands-on experience with configuring and troubleshooting Cisco switches and routers.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems involving networks and application systems.
  • Ability to create network architecture solutions for new applications based on user requirements.
  • Experience with SolarWinds products and Sniffer software.
  • Ability to create technical documentation such as statement of work, technical presentations, and after action support reports.
  • Help Desk experience at the Tier 3 level.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.

Desirable Experience/Abilities:
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Windows and Linux Operating systems including basic administration, communications and networking configurations.
  • Experience working in a virtualized environment
  • Knowledge of network traffic load balancing concepts.
  • Experience with either Windows or Linux based scripting languages. (PowerShell/VBS or Python/Perl/Ruby/Bash)
  • CCNA or better certification will be a plus.

Additional Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in area of specialty related to the position.
  • Candidate must be able to sit, stand and work at a computer for prolonged periods.
  • Strong communication and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours when needed.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check & drug test.
