Description

The Field Instrument Deployments and Operations (FIDO) Team in the Earth and Environmental Sciences (EES) Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) has an immediate opening for an ARM Technician to support daily operations of the ARM Mobile Facility 1 (AMF1) for the US Department of Energy (DOE) Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) campaign in Baltimore, Maryland.

What You Will Do

  • Travel and deploy to support long-term research campaigns in various locations around the world, beginning with the current deployment in Baltimore
  • Build and foster relationships with technical and project management staff from national labs and research institutions across the country
  • Support daily operations at the ARM Mobile Facility campaign site in Baltimore; this includes routine checks, inventory management, instrument maintenance and repair, and weather balloon launches
  • Receive and document shipments, and assist with outbound shipments
  • Engage the public by leading site tours and hosting visitors to the campaign site
  • Follow all site safety and code of conduct procedures


Required Skills

  • Communication: Demonstrated interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
  • Collaboration: 1 year of experience collaborating with a team to achieve shared goals
  • Organization: 2 years of experience organizing and tracking inventory, and maintaining records
  • Technical Problem Solving: 2 years of experience troubleshooting electronics, networking protocols, and low-voltage circuits; familiarity with the use of hand tools and digital multimeters
  • Time Management: Ability to work independently within a team, including the ability to take initiative, prioritize, and meet deadlines


Education

A bachelor s degree in engineering or a related STEM field from an accredited institution, and 2 years of related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field.


Desired Qualifications

  • 2 years of leadership and/or mentorship experience
  • 2 years of experience operating, installing, testing, repairing, and maintaining meteorological instrumentation


Essential job functions (can perform with or without reasonable accommodation): sitting and standing; climbing stairs and ladders; lifting 20-30 pounds to waist height; carrying 30-50 pounds and loading into/out of shipping containers; kneeling; squatting; twisting; and bending. Job functions will be performed both indoors and outdoors in a variety of environmental conditions; all personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided.
