At the Transportation Research Board (TRB), we care about the complex transportation challenges facing us today, including those that address equity, safety, climate change, congestion, and sustainability. We monitor the direction of emerging technologies like drones, 3-D printing, artificial intelligence, and driverless vehicles, and we study the impact they have on our nation. We are a division of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, which provides nonpartisan, objective guidance for decision and policy makers.
The Senior Program Officer will be responsible for developing and managing highly complex programs or projects in the TRB Technical Activities Division (TAD). The job s primary focus is on managing a portfolio of technical activities carried out through standing technical committees and other TAD volunteer groups. Portfolio of activities typically addresses a transportation mode, a broad disciplinary scope, or a strategic objective involving multiple modes and/or disciplines.
The portfolio of this Senior Program Officer position will consist of standing committees in the Transportation Infrastructure Group, specifically related to standing committees in the Bridges and Structures, Construction, and Materials Sections and other duties as assigned. On average, an SPO manages 12 standing technical committees with as many as 36 members each; 10-30 subcommittees of unlimited size; 1,500 committee Friends ; 1-2 conferences of 100-500 paying attendees per year; 35-40 TRB Annual Meeting sessions and workshops; and 400+/- papers to be peer-reviewed and scheduled for presentation at the Annual Meeting. The SPO reports directly to a Team Leader and to the Technical Activities Division Director and/or Deputy Director for Program Content.
