Job description

SOME (So Others Might Eat) provides material aid and comfort to our vulnerable neighbors in the District of Columbia, helping them to break the cycle of poverty and homelessness through programs and services that save lives, improve lives, and help to transform the lives of individuals and families, their communities, and the systems and structures that affect them. Our more than 30 programs throughout the district provide comprehensive services that lead to mental and physical health, continued sobriety, job training, living-wage employment, and affordable housing. We meet immediate needs with food, clothing, and healthcare and offer the tools one needs to live with hope, dignity, and greater independence.

We are currently seeking a part-time Residential Assistant for Leland House House in NE Washington DC.

Position Description: The Residential Assistant will provide monitoring and oversight of residential/transitional housing facilities and residents.

Required: HS Degree/GED; 1-3 yrs experience in social services; experience providing services in addictions or mental health treatment

Required License/Certification: CPR/First Aid; AED; Food Handler's License; Crisis Intervention (Training); Driver's License

Covid-19 Considerations: In alignment with DC Health, COVID-19 vaccinations and boosters are mandated for personnel working in SOMEs healthcare-designated programs, which currently include Medical, Dental, Population Health, Behavioral Health Services (BHS), Exodus House, Jordan House, Kirwan House, Keuhner Place, Leland Place, and Mary Claire House. Requests for a medical or religious exemption will be considered for a reasonable accommodation.

Schedule: Monday - Thursday 4:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Program Operations/Expectations:

* Perform room checks and hourly house walk-throughs

* Ensure house chores are completed

* Assist residents in preparing meals, as needed

* Monitor resident compliance with rules and regulations

* Provide documentation and maintain communication logs

* Respond to crisis situations or medical emergencies and report to management and on-call staff

* Monitor resident self-medication during shift

* Provide supervision of the facility and residents during assigned shift; maintain safety and security of the facility

* Provide assistance to residents with daily living activities

Reports to: Program Manager

Physical Demands: Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds. May be required to sit or stand for long periods.

Position Designation: This position is designated as Safety Sensitive. You may be subject to drug testing prior to or during your employment with SOME. In this position, you may be disqualified from employment based on the presence of marijuana in test results, even if you possess a medical card authorizing the use of medical marijuana.
