The Environmental Working Group (EWG), a leading environmental health research and advocacy organization, seeks a Foundations Manager and Grant Writer for its Washington, D.C., office.

EWG is seeking a motivated and detail oriented Foundations Manager and Grant Writer to join our Development team. This team is responsible for securing philanthropic revenue and growing and cultivating EWG's diverse funder base. As a Foundations Manager and Grant writer, you will be responsible for creating compelling and persuasive grant proposals, reports and development materials for various donor audiences, including private foundations and major funders, that inspire action toward our mission of protecting health and the environment. We are seeking a natural storyteller who can supplement creativity with data-driven research.
What you will do:
Translate complex issues in environmental science, health, and policy into concise and compelling fundraising and outreach materials, proposals and reports
Research grant opportunities from private foundations
Draft grant proposals and other supporting documents based on the requirements of the EWG and the prospective funder
Lead and coordinate internal review process
Work cross-functionally with EWG program staff to maximize funding opportunities
Submit proposals to foundations as required by funders
Respond to internal and external queries on drafted and submitted proposals
Cultivate relationships with program officers and other funder contacts to build interest in EWG's programs
Maintain accurate records for foundation funders and prospects and manage application and reporting deadlines
Maintain funding calendar activities, including cultivation and reporting activities.
In collaboration with program staff, develop and implement project management procedures to track grant implementation and ensure grant compliance
Submit reports related to funded grants
Participate in fundraising activities, staff, and department meetings
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
A minimum of three years of experience working in Foundation fundraising and writing grant proposals or fundraising materials
Excellent written communication skills
Strong research skills and ability to compellingly convey the mission and programs of EWG
Experience collaborating with a highly-skilled, mission-driven, diverse staff
Ability to troubleshoot and work under pressure, often to tight deadlines
Commitment to handling confidential matters with utmost integrity
Creative problem-solver comfortable working with autonomy to keep projects moving forward
Bachelor degree preferred
Preferred qualifications:
Experience in an environmental or health focused nonprofit is a plus.
Experience in scientific or technical writing
Location: Washington, D.C., office hybrid or remote
