Position Overview
QinetiQ US is seeking an experienced FPGA/Firmware Engineer to support engineering teams designing the next generation C5ISR (Command, Control, Computers, Communications, Cyber, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance) systems for the U.S. Military at our Lorton, VA facility.
Responsibilities
Work in a fast-paced environment, participating in and leading engineering teams designing the next generation C5ISR (Command, Control, Computers, Communications, Cyber, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance) systems for the U.S. Military.
The senior/principal FPGA engineer will be responsible for project architecture and large-scale problem solving usually as the discipline lead in a project.
Candidates must be able to architect and design systems for sensor and image processing platforms, assigning subtasks to junior firmware (FPGA or embedded software) engineers.
A solid background in electrical engineering, VHDL, and experience with Xilinx devices is required.
Solid engineering problem solving, experience with safety critical and/or fault tolerant designs, and experience with hazard, failure, risk analyses (i.e. FMEA, FTA, etc.) are required.
Tasks may include support of existing systems, system architecture development, FPGA solution architectural design, associated documentation tasks. Activities may range from development of a new design to integration of new or existing IP into an existing system.
Senior FPGA/Firmware design engineers frequently develop solution architectures, work-scope estimates, supervise and guide development efforts and support proposal writing efforts. Works directly with engineers in other disciplines (typically EE, SW). Moderate (<25>
Required Qualifications
M.S. or PhD in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering with strong EE background
Minimum experience of 7 years with a PhD or 10 years with a Masters degree
Prior professional work in the field of image processing
Professional experience with Xilinx Vivado design tool suite in a Linux environment
Working knowledge of AXI bus designs
Experience using Xilinx Integrated Logic Analyzer (ILA) tool to debug designs
Excellent written and verbal communications skills
Comfortable with proposal writing and leading PDR/CDR technical presentations
Professional experience with VHDL
Professional experience with VHDL simulation tools (Aldec Riviera-PRO preferred)
Demonstrated knowledge and experience with "hands-on" testing and troubleshooting
Proficiency with use of basic diagnostics tools such as digital multimeters and oscilloscopes
Familiarity with mixed-signal circuitry
Flexible, self-starting, desire to solve any problem
Must be able to obtain and retain a DOD Secret security clearance
Preferred Qualifications
Prior professional work in the field AI/ML hosted on programmable logic
Experience with Atlassian tools (Confluence, JIRA)
Experience with Git/GitLab for revision control
Knowledge of the Zynq series PetaLinux build system
Knowledge and experience with DOD, SAE, IEEE, and/or IPC standards
Experience with protocols such as CAN, SPI, RS232, I2C, USB, Ethernet, MIPI, CameraLink, CoaXPress
Working knowledge of one of MATLAB, C / C++, Visual C#, Python
