They might help to structure a complex and sensitive cross-border transaction; advise on a new product introduction; develop a training program or defuse an investor dispute. They also strive to maintain cooperative relationships with governmental policy makers and the regulatory and self-regulatory agencies that govern the firm's businesses.Background on the PositionMorgan Stanley is seeking an attorney with experience handling U.S. federal and state cybersecurity and privacy matters to join its Wealth Management Cybersecurity and Privacy legal team. Familiarity with U.S. Federal consumer protection laws and regulations governing the financial services industry is preferred but not required.Primary Responsibilities > Serve as a principal legal advisor for cybersecurity and privacy, fraud and operational resilience matters for Morgan Stanley Wealth Management's the brokerage and stock plan administration business units, as well as its U.S. Banks, Morgan Stanley Bank N.A. and Morgan Stanley Private Bank N.A.> Serve as a collaborative subject matter expert to other lawyers and advising functional areas and regional business units on privacy and data security laws and requirements.> Partner closely with international data protection counsel to provide strategic direction to Morgan Stanley's Wealth Management business units as it navigates complicated privacy and data protection issues.> Advise on requirements and restrictions on the collection, use, storage and sharing of sensitive client, consumer and employee information, including with respect to Morgan Stanley's use of artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies.> Assist in the development of a comprehensive cybersecurity and privacy law program, coordinating privacy, fraud, and information security legal requirements.> Serve as lead counsel responding to information security and privacy issues for Morgan Stanley Bank N.A. and Morgan Stanley Private Bank N.A.> Work cross-functionally with Morgan Stanley's Central Privacy Compliance, Wealth Management Risk, and Bank Risk teams to develop and maintain notices, policies and procedures for privacy and information security, consistent with applicable international, federal and state laws, rules and guidance.> Partner with the Privacy Operations team within the Legal and Compliance Division to advise on Privacy Impact Assessments and data subject access rights requests.> Maintain current knowledge of applicable state, federal and international cybersecurity, privacy, fraud and resilience laws and regulations.Qualifications> J.D. with a minimum of 5 years' experience, including experience in or with financial services firms> Admitted to practice in a U.S. state> Ability to interact and effectively advise senior members of the Firm and its business units> Strong problem-solving skills and ability to understand practical solutions to legal problems a must> Polished written and verbal communication skills; position requires executive presence> Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a group or independent setting> Proven track record of meeting deadlines, learning quickly, taking the initiative, working proactively, being resourceful and shouldering additional responsibility> Ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently in an efficient and effective manner > International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) Certification helpful, but not required > Technical background and knowledge of information security principles preferred but not required.Morgan Stanley's goal is to build and maintain a workforce that is diverse in experience and background but uniform in reflecting our standards of integrity and excellence.
