Job Description
The Washington Post is seeking an accomplished journalist to join our rapid response investigations team in the pursuit of high-impact accountability stories on the most urgent topics of the day. This position offers the opportunity to be part of a team that holds to account elected officials, policymakers, influential private interests and other powerful institutions, a function that is central to The Post's mission.
The ideal candidate will have a track record of producing investigative scoops on a range of topics, a collaborative spirit and a proven ability to report and write at a high level on a tight deadline. We are seeking someone who has a keen instinct about what targets merit scrutiny and how to unearth new facts that will reshape the public's understanding of major news events and people in power.
Responsibilities:
Identifying and producing quick-turn investigative stories that have impact and drive public debate.
Reporting across a range of topic areas with the highest level of rigor and a commitment to fairness and accuracy.
Working in collaboration with colleagues across the newsroom, including the visual forensics team.
Preferred qualifications:
A demonstrated ability to land consequential accountability stories.
A quick metabolism and competitive drive.
An abundance of ideas, energy and determination.
Nimble and creative, and able to think clearly about the value of particular reporting targets.
Familiarity with promising but often overlooked sources of information, particularly those that can be obtained quickly through digital means, is also a plus.
This position is based in our Washington newsroom.
Interested candidates should upload a cover letter outlining their qualifications and vision for the role, along with a rsum and three clips, to our jobs portal. All application materials can be uploaded to the same field. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled, but those received by Apr. 5 will be prioritized. The cover letter should be addressed to Rapid Response Editor Eric Rich, Investigations Editor Peter Wallsten and Managing Editor Matea Gold.
