**Description**

The Clock Tower Thrift Shop is a special program of Northern Virginia Family Service (NVFS) which offers affordable, unique, high-quality goods to customers at affordable pricing. Its an important part of the NVFS agency, a nonprofit serving the Northern Virginia and DMV community for nearly 100 years. Revenue generated from the Thrift Store goes back into the Agencys programs.

The Thrift Store Manager is responsible for implementing the store strategy and action plan to maximize productivity and profitability. Under limited offsite supervision and by exercising discretion and considerable independent judgment in matters of significance, the Store Manager plans, coordinates, and directs the activities related to the operations of the NVFS Thrift Shop. The Manager also handles staffing, managing performance, leading the staff in the completion of production goals, and works to ensure sales and net revenue are met on a daily, weekly and monthly basis is essential. The incumbent must be able to accommodate the operational schedule of the store including nights, weekends & holidays.

**The Thrift Store Manager is an innovative thought partner to the Director seeking ways to diversify the stores customers and donors; passionate about providing a seamless experience for customers and donors through exceptional customer service orientation; and a skilled people manager and team builder.** The Manager will also understand the importance of the stores revenue generation cycle and be able to connect with customers on an individual basis to understand their needs and match them with goods received by the store.

In accordance with President Bidens COVID-19 Action Plan, and as part of our continued efforts to maintain a safe workplace for employees and clients, NVFS is implementing a COVID-19 Vaccination or Testing Policy. As of Monday, November 1, 2021, NVFS will require all employees to be fully vaccinated with an approved COVID-19 vaccination or show proof of negative COVID-19 test results weekly in accordance with applicable law.

*Staffing and Coverage:*

* Identify and fulfill staffing needs; work collaboratively with each staff member on talent development process to set job and development goals; approve timesheets, leave and reimbursement requests.

* Provide ongoing orientation and training to store staff to enable and motivate them to effectively serve customers and contribute to smooth store operations; effectively provide team building opportunities and assure staff understand the importance of their roles and contributions to the larger Agency.

* Conduct regular individual and group staff meetings.

* Effectively manage volunteers, community service workers, and volunteer groups.

* Prepare weekly schedules; manage labor hours and determine daily priorities and tasks to be accomplished.

* Communicate Agency and store policies and procedures, ensuring store staffs understanding and ability to follow them.

*Store Operations:*

* Represent thrift shop in a positive, pleasant manner by providing excellent customer service at all times; serve as role model and adhere to Agency guidelines; handle requests and concerns in a friendly, fair and impartial manner.

* Provide exceptional customer service and determine ways to drive up returning customers and donors. Understand customer needs, match donations with needs identified, and close out sales.

* Maintain an attractive and convenient layout of sales floor; oversee rotation of materials, visual merchandising, cleanliness and organization of sales floor; maintain the correct quantity and quality of merchandise on sales floor; ensure merchandising on sales floor is maintained throughout the day.

*Sales, Revenue and Pricing:*

* Ensure that budgeted sales and net revenue goals are met on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.

* Ensure donations are received, recorded and presorted according to procedure; monitor and optimize production and inventory; ensure production goals are met; review and ensure utilization of appropriate pricing guidelines.

* Ensure that all paperwork is completed in an accurate and timely manner, including cash management, sales reports, cash audits, and other paperwork as required; maintain confidentiality of information related to operations, financial matters and personnel issues.

*Other:*

* Participate in community activities and make weekly community contacts to share mission and/or solicit donations; manage volunteer programs in the store.

* Attend and participate in regular store management meetings and training sessions as scheduled.

* Perform other related duties as assigned or required.

**Qualification Requirements:** *An individual may obtain skills through a variety of professional, personal, educational, and volunteer experiences. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required to perform essential job duties.*

* Demonstrated understanding of and experience with retail operations, merchandising and pricing strategy, and sales.

* Prior experience in a retail and/or thrift store setting.

* Experience providing direct supervision of staff.

* Superior customer service skills and the ability to communicate effectively with staff, customers & donors.

* Must be able to accommodate the operational schedule of the store including nights, weekends & holidays.

* Ability to use a cash register, calculator, credit card processing machine and make change accurately.

* Oral and written fluency in English required; Spanish language fluency a plus. Additional language skills always welcome.

* Proficiency in usage of basic technological tools including laptops/computers, email, phones, and internet required. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite required.

* Must be able to demonstrate and live the organizational values of Communication, Integrity, Respect, Collaboration, and Accountability.

* Successful completion of background checks required upon hire.

* Must have reliable transportation.

* Must be available to work holidays, evening and weekends as needed and on short notice.

* Must be able to lift and move up to 25 pounds of clothing and/or house wares.
