The Laboratory of Dr. Bethea is in search of a highly motivated Laboratory Technician. The Bethea laboratory works on neuroimmune mechanisms of CNS injury and repair with the ultimate goal of developing new therapies for chronic pain and other neurodegenerative disorders.

The Laboratory Technician will work with our team to maintain transgenic mouse colonies. They will be responsible for ensuring maintenance of mouse colony records and perform genotyping.

Responsibilities/expectations include but are not limited to:

  • Ensuring proper records of transgenic mouse lines are maintained
  • Perform mouse handling procedures (i.e. genotyping, injections)
  • Assisting other lab members if time/expertise allows
  • Data Collection/Preparation
  • Providing set up and tear down support to faculty, staff and students in the lab
  • Performing lab maintenance, prepping and maintaining equipment for research use, and maintaining stock levels for assigned laboratory


Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a high school diploma/GED plus 1.5 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Bachelor s degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.

  • Demonstrated experience with maintaining a mouse colony and performing various molecular biology techniques (i.e. PCR)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint and Excel

Typical Hiring Range

$22.15 - $31.33
