The Multifunctional Materials and Nanostructures Group is seeking a process engineer with a strong background in semiconductor materials and devices for solid state energy conversion technologies.

The Research and Exploratory Development Department (REDD) at APL, has a strong and growing R&D initiative to pursue innovative solid-state energy and thermal management technologies, in order to support the ever-increasing energy, power, and thermal demands in the national security, space, and other dual-purpose domains. This Processing Engineering will engage in a wide spectrum of engineering and materials processing including, but not limited to, working in a materials/chemistry R&D lab, photolithography, electrochemical plating, custom engineering of high-vacuum, high-temperature equipment for characterizing materials, testing semiconductor devices, and the use of optical instruments. The successful candidate will work and communicate closely and effectively with the materials R&D team to ensure all tasks are performed to extremely high standards.

**Your duties will include:**

* Conduct materials and semiconductors processing. Processing activities include, but are not limited to, material synthesis, device fabrication, prototyping, electrochemical plating, photolithography, and the facilitization, operation, and maintenance of the equipment.

* Characterize and analyze materials and devices.

* Communicate daily with project teams on materials development activities to support programmatic needs. Participate in discussion of ideas, options, and approaches. Report work progress in both oral and written form.

**Qualifications**

: **You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...**

* Two-year associate degree or equivalent work experience.

* 1+ years of laboratory experience in fabricating and characterizing semiconductor materials and devices.

* Organizational skills necessary for maintenance of laboratory process inventories and notebooks.

* Detailed data analysis skills and the ability to communicate with the team to discuss results, future directions, and new ideas.

* Proficiency with Microsoft Office to include Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

* Are a team player and have excellent communication skills.

* Are willing and able to travel occasionally to attend meetings with sponsors and academic conferences.

* Are able to obtain a Secret level security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

* Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry or a related field.

* 2+ years of hands-on experience in semiconductor processing such as photolithography, plating, and physical vapor deposition including e-beam evaporation.
