Job description

Position Overview : Child Trends is looking for an Accountant who can handle Accounts Payable (AP) and assist with Accounts Receivable (AR) tasks, including billing. Under the supervision of the Accounting Supervisor, this position will also prepare journal entries and reconcile general ledger accounts. The position requires effective communication with our external research partners and our internal research staff. It involves handling highly confidential and sensitive information and interaction with staff at all levels of the organization. Independent judgment is required to plan, prioritize, and organize a diversified workload. This is a temporary full-time position.Duties and Responsibilitie

sResponsible for reviewing vendors, consultants invoices and honorarium requests for appropriate documentation and approval.Research and resolve invoice discrepancies and issues.Assist with preparing and sending invoices to funders.General ledger responsibilities, including preparation of journal entries, and reconciliation of general ledger accounts.Other duties as assigned.Work both independently and as part of a team to accomplish accounting goals and meet deadlines.Collaborate effectively with colleagues across different departments, such as project managers.Adapt to changes in priorities, tasks, demonstrating flexibility and resilience.Qualifications/Skills & Knowledge RequirementsBachelor s degree in accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.At least 2 years of accounting experience in a fast-paced environment.Knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and regulations (federal).Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical skills.Proficiency in accounting software and MS Excel, advanced, is a plus.Ability to work efficiently in a remote setting, demonstrating self-motivation and time management skills.Strong written and verbal communication skills.Integrity and ability to handle sensitive and confidential informationLocations:

Flexible Remote Work; Child Trends offices are based in Rockville, MD; Chapel Hill, NC; Minneapolis, MN. Many Child Trends staff work remotely, and while we are set up to hire remote staff in many states, we are not yet operating everywhere in the US and do not have any overseas operations. We are currently approved to hire full-time staff in AK, AL, AZ, CA, CO, CT, DC, DE, FL, GA, IL, IN, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, MT, NC, NH, NJ, NM, NY, OK, OR, PA, TN, TX, VA, WI, and WV. The organization will require time to assess additional set up requirements (e.g., employment and tax law) for locations outside of areas where we are currently approved to hire.
