Database Engineer

to join our team. The Database Engineer is a fully qualified relational database technician who is responsible for creating, configuring, maintaining, and supporting databases utilized in production, development, and support systems.Primary Responsibilities:Design, install, configure, upgrade, and manage databases as needed.Work closely with network engineers, systems and software development, and internal business stakeholders to ensure the full integration and smooth functioning of the environment's database functionality.Collaborate with analysts and programmers for detail, design, specification, coding, testing, troubleshooting and implementation.Direct and control the activities related to data planning and development and establish policies and procedures pertaining to its management, security, maintenance, and utilization.Conduct capacity planning studies and performance tuning; apply knowledge of emerging technology trends and develop alternatives with respect to hardware and software.Use Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO) and native monitoring and troubleshooting tools to quickly identify root causes and apply fixes.Create standards for replication, backup, restore, and disaster recovery using a combination of best practices and creativity.Develop SQL Jobs for data exports, data archival/purge, error monitoring and investigate/resolve job failures.Create operational efficiency and increased accuracy through automated scripts.Utilize indexing, index management, and statistics to improve performance, stability, and scalability.Write complex SQL code, including scripts, stored procedures, triggers, and functions as required.Skills and Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills may be acquired.Five (5) years of experience maintaining all preproduction environments, the built environment, and CM tools.Five (5) years of experience conducting database backups, tuning, user maintenance, and system maintenance.Five (5) years of experience creating and modifying SQL scripts, database triggers, and embedded programs for database objects.Five (5) years of experience with one or more of the major RDBMS systems, including, but not limited to, Oracle, SQL Server, DB2, and Sybase.Five (5) years of experience in production support (24x7) and troubleshooting.Five (5) years of experience in physical and logical database design and development.Five (5) years of experience providing technical expertise/training to the end-users, developers, and capacity planners, along with assisting in the development of SQL applications and coordination of data migration, conversion planning and programming of new or improved database systems.Agile development experience is a plus.Competency with SQL and/or Java, C#/.NET a plus.Experience in Logical Database Design, Physical Database Design, and Database Security.PL/SQL programming.Have extensive experience with Data architectures & SQL development; SQL tuning and optimization; stored procedures, triggers, views, maintenance jobs, and backups; SQL Reporting Services; and debugging skills in either Windows or Linux Platforms.Ability to recommend system upgrades and enhancements for increased performance and capacity and do capacity planning to meet business growth.Ability to analyze and solve problems.Ability to interact with staff, members and others encountered in the course of work.Ability to learn and apply new information or skills.Ability to perform highly detailed work on multiple concurrent tasks.Excellent interpersonal skills, especially the ability to advocate, negotiate, listen to, and collaborate with various individuals and groups.Ability to succeed in a dynamic environment and produce deliverables within tight timeframes and under pressure.Ability to respond when called and perform troubleshooting in a timely manner.Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and be highly organized with attention to detail.
