Job description

The Business Resource Center (BRC) provides administrative and professional business services for Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI) and our parent organization, the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy, Inc. (AURA). The Accounting Department, within BRC, is seeking a Senior Accountant to support the day-to-day operations, including but not limited to; program billings, account reconciliations, journal entries, and other general accounting functions.

Essential Functions:

Acts as a primary point of contact for external audit activities and coordinates fieldwork and requests with internal staff for Fiscal and Health and Welfare audits.Prepares the Health and Welfare financial statements.Works closely with our Corporate office throughout the entire year-end consolidation process.Participates in accounting closes by; managing assigned journal entries, completing account reconciliations, and overseeing the billing function.Resolve a variety of internal and external inquiries concerning billing status, billing discrepancies and collection issues in a timely and efficient manner.Prepare billings for submissions to customers of various types of arrangements (i.e., cost reimbursable, firm-fixed price, cost-plus-fixed-fee, etc.).Acts as backup for; daily bank monitoring, wire processing, EFT/positive pay file uploads, weekly EFT/check run advice reviews, and entering of cash receipts.Provides mentoring and directs work.Serves as an accounting resource to internal and external members and resolves complex accounting issues.Assists in the development of new accounting systems, system conversions, upgrades and testing.Responsible for maintaining up-to-date procedures for critical functions.Performs ad hoc accounting duties.

Required Education, Experience, Skills and Qualifications:

Bachelor s degree in Accounting or related field4+ years of experience in the Accounting profession2+ years of experience specifically within public accounting (audit)Ability to anticipate and resolve complex problems, exercise sound judgement, and plan, organize, and prioritize multiple demands efficiently and effectivelyStrong verbal and written communication skillsAbility to work independently and as part of a teamProficiency with Microsoft OfficeKnowledge of concepts, theories, principles, and practices of general accounting (GAAP)

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Education, Experience, Skills and Qualifications

Working knowledge of OMB Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles, and Audit Requirements for Federal Awards (Uniform Guidance); Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR); and Cost Accounting StandardsWorking knowledge of Deltek CostpointCertified Public Accountant or CPA candidate

The salary range is $75k-$90k.
