Summary
This position is in the Pavements Section in the Technical Services Branch of the Eastern Federal Lands Highway Division (EFLHD), Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). You will serve as a technical specialist in the field of pavement engineering. This includes pavement testing and evaluation, pavement design, pavement subsurface drainage, pavement rehabilitation, life cycle cost analysis, and pavement construction.

Duties
As a Civil Engineer (Highway - Pavements), you will:
- Plan, coordinate, supervise, and participate in pavement investigations using the EFLHD Subsurface Investigation Team, EFLHD core trailer, and/or consultant investigation crews.
- Analyze all factors affecting pavement structural design, including existing pavement condition, subgrade support, pavement subsurface drainage, design traffic loads, and other pertinent factors to evaluate various rehabilitation/reconstruction alternatives for existing pavements and new construction alternatives for proposed pavements.
- Procure or assist in procuring, pavement investigation, testing, and/or engineering services from outside sources. Serve as Contracting Officer's Technical Representative (COTR) for these activities to ensure that the work is being performed in accordance with the contract.
- Provide on-the-job training to new employees, cooperative education students, Professional Development Program (PDP) participants, and other developmental employees as assigned.

- Specified academic courses - Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences which included the courses as specified in Paragraph A above.
- Related curriculum - Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant had at least 1 year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance.There should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering type experience.
