Chief Objective of Position Clinical and classroom instruction for undergraduate and/or graduate students Job Summary Adjunct faculty positions supplement the faculty of a department whenever additional faculty are needed. Adjunct faculty hold appointments as defined by their letter of appointment, without eligibility for tenure; where authorized by the Dean, adjuunct appointments may be renewed. Adjunct appointment does not guarantee course assignments Physical Demands Adjunct faculty in the clinical and classroom area may be required to walk for prolonged periods, stand for prolonged periods, and do medium work 50 lbs. lifting, frequent lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 25 lbs. Clinical teaching in health care related agencies includes potential exposure to patients who have contagious disease processes; subject to hazards-environmental conditions, and exposure to potential pathogens. Required Qualifications All faculty must have at least a Masters degree in the field/discipline in which they are teaching with 18 hours of course work related to the course(s) being taught. Preferred Qualifications Recent clinical experience in an acute care or community health care setting. Education Adjunct faculty must hold an advanced degree or equivalent credentials based on experience consistent with accreditation criteria of the discipline and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS ). All faculty must have at least a Masters degree in the field in which they are teaching with 18 graduate hours of course work related to the specified discipline. In some cases, subject to the approval by the Provost, recommendation for appointment may be based on the substitution of significant experience for the degree. A memo from the Dean placed in the instructors personnel file is required to justify an exception to the accreditation standards of SACS and must include certification of the knowledge and skills.
