Job description
Responsibilities of this position are that of a Program Support Specialist with a focus in the Veterinary Technician area for SoBran's animal care contracts the MD/DC/VA area.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
Primary duties may include the following:
*All employees are expected to arrive to work at the time specified for the position to which they are assigned. Work hours typically occur between 6:00am and 8:30pm M-F. These assignments may include working on weekends and holidays and will be at the discretion of the Program Management Staff. Weekend/Holiday hours range from 6:00am - 6:30pm.
This person is expected to have a general familiarity with day-to-day activities in multiple facilities working with multiple species. We expect the Program Support Specialist to be forward thinking and able to use their knowledge of basic facility practices to accomplish tasks in a wide array of positions and assignments. The PSS also must attain and maintain access to the facilities as required by the client.
This position's responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Understands and follows all SOP's and Quality Assurance Standards.
Assist veterinarian with examinations and procedures, and alert veterinarian of emergencies or animal problems
Perform daily clinical rounds
Prepare and administer clinical treatments as directed (Topical, PO, IM, SQ, IV, ID)
Monitor the health status and maintenance of accurate and detailed health records
Collect physiological data (pulse, respiration, heart rate, body temperature, etc
Identify and communicate signs of abnormal or poor health
Provide small and large animal enrichment as directed
Cleaning, sanitizing, organizing and otherwise preparing animal support areas ( OR, prep rooms, etc.)
Perform and/or assist and maintain anesthesia/recovery for animals undergoing procedures such as surgery and imaging.
Provide surgical room assistance and preparation.
Maintain surgical room supplies and equipment.
Assist with surgical procedures and monitor animals during and after procedures.
Assist with training and orientation of surgical room procedures.
Prepare and transport animals for imaging and monitor during imaging procedures.
Maintain surgical equipment
Check for expired items and maintain inventory
Address QC findings in a timely manner
Must be able to lift a maximum of 50 lbs; bend, stoop, climb and stand for a prolonged period
Routinely safely handles and disposes of hazardous (biohazardous, radiological, or chemical) materials
Perform any other duties as assigned
Expectation of education and AALAS certification at LAT level, or equivalent training and experience
