Inova Fairfax Medical Campus Pediatric Emergency Department has a great full-time Mental Health Technician 2 opportunity.
The Mental Health Technician 2 under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse provides direct care to patients whose care requirements are routine, standardized and with predictable outcomes. Assumes responsibility for self-development in lifelong learning. Demonstrates respect for and an understanding of other clinical disciplines while serving as a unit preceptor for all new Mental Health Technicians.
This role is a full-time 12-hour day shift/ 3 days per week position. 11am-11pm or 12pm -12 midnight. Every 3rd weekend.

Job Responsibilities:
- Assists unit leadership with oversight of the unit's Mental Health Technician education needs/compliance.
- Collaborates with the Registered Nurse and healthcare team to advocate for patients' clinical, emotional, ethical, spiritual, and cultural needs.
- Provides individualized patient support for activities of daily living including bathing, feeding, bed making and measurement of vital signs and intake/output.
- Provides information to patients, families and visitors which may include orients patients to the unit/program, explains rationale for rules or restrictions and provides printed information.
- Serves as a resource and unit preceptor for all new Mental Health Technicians. Works with the unit leadership to ensure Mental Health Technicians have current competencies and skills to perform their work.
Qualifications:
Experience:
- Two (2) years of experience as a Mental Health Technician 1 or Clinical Technician 1 at Inova Health System and/or two (2) years as psychiatric technician at another facility.
Education:
- High School or GED
Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Heart Association.
