Summer Sports Camp Counselor

Job description

Specifically, areas of responsibilities will include:

  • Supports high-quality educational and recreational opportunities and enjoyable experiences for camp participants.
  • Works with campers and ensures their safety, development, growth, skill achievement, and general well-being.
  • Adheres to a schedule for camp participants.
  • Executes various small and large group activities.
  • Contributes to the cleanliness of the site.
  • Knows and understands all emergency procedures associated with summer programs.
  • Assists in mediation of any campers' disputes.
  • Knows, enforces, and follows all safety guidelines associated with summer programs, including knowing the whereabouts of your campers at all times.
  • Maintains constant surveillance of the camp spaces.


The position may perform other related duties as assigned.The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of campers.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to solve problems in a rational manner.
  • Exhibit qualities of leadership and organizational ability and reflect a spirit of cooperation in working with staff and school administration.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with campers, staff and the community.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in both verbal and written form.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of St. Albans policies.
