How You Will Make an Impact:
The Special Education Teacher instructs and assesses assigned students with disabilities in a personalized instructional environment, working with students and/or parents to determine and evaluate the students academic plan. This position will collaborate with school administration and faculty to support student retention and academic success.

Assign a course of study individualized to the needs of the student
Provide instruction to students using approved curriculum
Collaborate with general education teachers and refer students to a core subject teacher when necessary
Construct, review, revise and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEP) following state and federal
timelines
Be responsible for managing the students behavior; exercise corrective action when necessary
Participate in the identification of students with possible disabilities post intervention phase
May perform work for special day class settings
Schedule and chair IEP meetings including 30 day review IEP meetings
Meet special education program timeline requirements
Participate in, proctor, and supervise state and school-mandated testing following school policies and
procedures for test security. Assign test scores as appropriate on formative assessments, projects, or local
tests
Accept, carefully review, and evaluate homework and online work, providing timely feedback to students
Monitor students course credit completion
Monitor and document student notes in the student information system (SIS)
Meet all Ohio Standards for the Teaching Profession and Ohio Standards of Professional Practice
Be available to student and/or parent during the student's appointment
Collaborate with the Principal to develop an Individual Professional Development Plan (IPDP)
Contribute to teacher-based teams, professional learning communities and/or committees as assigned
Report necessary absences as soon as the need is known, and prepare documentation for a substitute or
other teacher as needed
Call students when they miss their appointments
Assist the student in finding additional resources when necessary
Refer students to labs, tutoring, student study team, and counseling when appropriate
Complete yearly academic plans that correspond to upcoming State Education standards
Complete report cards and progress reports as required or requested
Submit student attendance and reporting in the SIS database
Conduct close-out procedures of student folders at the end of the learning period and when a student drops,
withdraws, or graduates
Work with the Student Services staff on student folder changes and corrections
Accurate recordkeeping as defined by the Ohio Department of Education, Sponsor, and Auditors
Keep all student work neat and organized
Attend staff meetings and assigned professional development activities
Attend graduation ceremonies and participate in other school events
Administrative duties, responsibilities, and activities may be assigned or changed from time to time
