Description

The Aquatics Division of the Department of Parks, Recreation & Culture is seeking an experienced professionalfor the full-time position of Aquatics Facility Coordinator to assist with overseeing day-to-day safe and effective operation and programming functions for the City's Aquatic facilities (the , the , and the ), with an emphasis on facility maintenance, in conjunction with program administration and staff supervision.

We are looking for a positive, creative, and resourceful self-starter who is experienced in managing operations and maintenance of indoor and outdoor aquatic facilities as well as in planning, organizing, implementing, and supervising aquatic recreation programs, services, and activities. Good judgment, ability to take ownership of a variety of responsibilities, and setting a positive example for the rest of the staff to follow are essential. You must be highly customer focused, an effective communicator, computer savvy, able to juggle multiple tasks, and work effectively independently and as part of the team. You'll be joining an innovative and collaborative team committed to providing diverse cultural, artistic, and recreational opportunities and interests to promote the well-being of residents and visitors.

Starting salary for this position is negotiable within the target hiring range ($63,000 - $68,000) and will be offered at a level consistent with the experience and qualifications of the candidate. Job Functions

What you will do with us:
  • Plan, develop, organize, and supervise activities and programs including facility rentals, special events, group outings, parties, group and private lessons or instructional opportunities, etc.
  • Oversee daily opening and closing of facilities; check and monitor equipment; identify maintenance concerns; make light repairs.
  • Coordinate and promote community partnerships, sponsorships, and collaboration; develop and implement marketing strategies.
  • Assist with budget development and manage financial operations.
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, training programs, and safety rules.
  • Recruit, hire, supervise, train, and evaluate facility staff.
  • Provide outstanding service, pursue continuous improvement, and exceed expectations.

Qualifications

What you will need to be considered:
  • Demonstrated strong leadership and mentoring skills.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, interpersonal, outreach, problem-solving, and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Well-developed program/project management skills.
  • Be safety-conscious and able to handle emergency situations calmly and effectively.
  • Solid computer/technology skills (Microsoft Office, specialized recreation software).
  • Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Physical Education, Leisure Services or closely related field.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in swimming pool operations/management and community aquatic programming. (An additional 4 years of experience may substitute for the educational requirement.)
  • At least 2 years of direct supervisory experience.
  • Or any acceptable equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Required Certifications/Licenses (within 6 months of hire):
  • Valid Maryland driver's license.
  • CPR, AED, and First Aid certification (Professional Rescuer Certification).
  • Montgomery County Swimming Pool Operator License (or equivalent).
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certification.


Preferred Certifications/Licenses:
  • Certified Parks & Recreation Professional.
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Instructor Certification.
  • American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification.
  • Certified Pool Operator or Aquatic Facility Operator.
  • Swimming Pool Technician Certification.

This is a full-time salaried "exempt" position requiring a minimum of 40 hours per week (not eligible for overtime compensation under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and the City's personnel regulations). Work on holidays, evenings, and weekends may be required. Direct deposit of paychecks is a condition of employment for all City of Gaithersburg employees.

The successful candidate will be subject to a pre-employment background investigation and medical examination including drug/alcohol screening.
