The Phlebotomist collects and processes blood specimens for testing in the laboratory. Incumbents maintain current knowledge and skills to independently perform dermal punctures on all age groups. * Collects blood specimens using age-appropriate techniques. Accurately aliquots, labels and stores specimens. * Evaluates specimens for acceptability prior to receipt and follows specimen rejections criteria. Communicates appropriately with ordering source and completes documentation. * Exhibits a working knowledge of lab specimen requirements as evidenced by adequate sample collection, post-collection handling, and distribution to proper lab section with minimal recollections. * Demonstrates working knowledge of lab computer/clerical systems: order entry, registrations, specimen receipt, printing labels, printing/retrieving/ faxing reports, and entering revisits.Who We Are:Fauquier Health is a 97-bed acute care hospital offering surgical services (including robotics), a 24-hour Emergency Department, extensive medical imaging capabilities, an Intensive Care Unit and much, much more.
