Advancement Associate

Job description

The Advancement Associate is an integral part of the Advancement team helping to further the mission of Milton Gottesman Jewish Day School. This position will report to the Chief Advancement Officer and will assist with development, communication, and special events work.

Responsibilities include:
  • As the primary administrator of the school's fundraising database, the Advancement Associate is responsible for the accurate and timely entry, processing, and acknowledgement of gifts; generating mailings lists; creating reports, and supporting data analysis.
  • Maintain database integrity and use the database to its full potential to track giving and engagement, analyze giving trends, and support a data-driven development strategy.
  • Execute a creative and donor-centric stewardship program, including the production of timely acknowledgement letters.
  • Create and produce weekly gift reports and other data analysis to inform decision making, and liaise with the Business Office to track gift allocation and processing.
  • Support volunteer committees, including meeting scheduling, presentations and other materials.
  • Assist with prospect research, and foundation grant requests and reporting.
  • Help prepare for donor meetings and events, including invitations, logistics, and communications.
  • Support the school's communications efforts, including, but not limited to posts for social media, developing newsletters, and storytelling content.
  • Support the collection, management and deployment of personal data with the school's current and alumni communities to assure effective availability and use in connection with school communications.
  • Collaborate with Advancement colleagues to execute major development events, including Share the Nachas Day (grandparents' and special friends day), Purim Ball, and other special and ad hoc events.
  • Step in to support other areas of school as required. As a small school, we pitch in where and when needed, whether to take on new tasks or to support a temporary need.

The ideal candidate will have:
  • Bachelor's Degree and 1-2+ years of administrative or other relevant experience
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills and a high level of attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and as an integral part of a team
  • Ability to handle challenging situations diplomatically, a sense of humor, and commitment to being a team player.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, act with discretion, and maintain a high level of performance under pressure
  • Fluency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Raiser's Edge (or similar fundraising database)
  • Availability to periodically work outside of the normal schedule for early morning meetings, evening engagements, and occasional weekend obligations
  • Knowledge of the Washington, DC Jewish community and/or experience working in a school environment preferred
