Urgent Care Medical Director

Job description

Supervisor: Medical Director/Practice Administrator

Primary Function: The Physician/Medical Director is responsible for providing direct patient care, including evaluation, treatment, and patient education. Additionally, they will coordinate patients' healthcare needs.

Minimum Requirements:

  1. Board-certified or Board Eligible in Family Practice, Internal Medicine, or Emergency Medicine.
  2. Current licenses (Maryland/Virginia, CDS, DEA).
  3. Up-to-date with Continuing Medical Education (CME) requirements.
  4. Minimum of one-year experience, preferably in an urgent care facility or primary care physician s office.
  5. Understanding of CPT codes and ICD coding.
  6. Familiarity with OSHA and HIPAA regulations.
  7. Certification in ACLS.
  8. Excellent verbal communication skills.
  9. Customer service-oriented attitude.

Supervision Received: The Physician/Medical Director will exercise independent decision-making regarding patient care, guided by professional training, experience, and Medical Access and Medical Director guidelines.

Supervision Exercised: While not directly supervising staff, the Physician/Medical Director will have indirect authority over clinical staff through treatment orders.

Scope:

  1. Conduct examinations and treatment for patients, adhering to urgent care and primary care practice standards.
  2. Report to the Medical Director.

Safety Responsibility:

  1. Adhere to universal precautions and safety practices.
  2. Perform light work, exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally.
  3. Participate in hazard identification and adhere to safety procedures.
  4. Contribute to quality improvement initiatives.
  5. Possess knowledge of clinical interventions and equipment.

Essential Functions:

  1. Evaluate and treat patients.
  2. Order diagnostic tests.
  3. Document patient information accurately.
  4. Provide patient education.
  5. Make referrals for specialty care.
  6. Operate AED equipment.
  7. Perform initial reads on X-rays.
  8. Follow-up with patients on abnormal results.
  9. Complete required paperwork.
  10. Suture patients as needed.
  11. Administer prescriptions appropriately.
  12. Stay updated on medical developments.
  13. Coordinate with companies on worker injury cases.
  14. Assist with medical practice marketing.
  15. Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  16. Attend scheduled meetings.
  17. Perform other assigned duties.
