The AFS portfolio currently includes seven projects spanning a wide range of technical sectors (agricultural production, markets, nutrition, behavior change, policy, climate change, etc.). We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world. This role can be remote or DMV based with a preference for DMV based candidates. Position Overview:The AFS Practice works across regions within Chemonics with projects and proposal teams to advance technical excellence and development impact by generating, capturing, and sharing knowledge in the areas of resilience, market systems, private sector engagement, access to finance for, nutrition and gender and youth inclusion in agriculture. The AFS Practice intern will be an integral member of the Practice Management Team (PMT) and support all aspects of practice management over a period of 10 weeks, 40 hours per week.The position will include assisting with planning and implementation of practice initiatives, research efforts, preparing technical resources, and other new business and technical tasks as needed. The specific tasks and deliverables for the role will be determined based on priorities at the time of engagement and the intern s interest. The AFS Practice intern will also gain an understanding of the international development field and Chemonics technical areas. Responsibilities:Lead on one key technical initiative: this core assignment will vary depending on timing and the intern s background and interest potential assignments include:o In partnership with the AFS team and relevant projects and practice staff, produce a learning product that summarizes Chemonics approach to increasing resilience and improving food security in the face of economic, climate, and/or conflict shocks. The learning product will be based on available quantitative and qualitative data.Writing a Blog Post or Article for Chemonics website: Chemonics articles and blog posts are a key tool for sharing AFS practice information or industry trends with internal and external audiences, respectively. In the latter half of the internship, the intern will work with the AFS team and the Communications team to pick and research a pertinent AFS topic, and then write and publish an article. Of particular interest to the AFS team is resilience, market systems, and food security.Attend and Report Back on Industry Events: The AFS team strives stay up to date on the latest research and practices in our industry. Over the course of the internship, the intern will identify, attend, and report back on two events or webinars. The report out can take the form of sharing notes with the AFS practice, hosting a brownbag/learn bite, or writing a DailyChem article or blogParticipate in the organization and implementation of internal and external AFS Practice eventsPerform AFS Practice tasks to support PMT activities as assignedRequirements:Enrolled student currently pursuing a graduate degree (first year of program completed),or recent graduates (2024) from masters programs are eligible to apply.Demonstrated interest in international development.Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely in both verbal and written English communications; strong cross-culture communication and sensitivity skillsExperience in or knowledge of programming in resilience, agriculture and food security or a related subsectorExperience with research and data analysis requiredAbility to multitask with strong attention to detail, organization, and time management with minimum oversightDemonstrated ability to handle routine administrative tasks and operational issuesExcellent interpersonal skillsDemonstrated resourcefulness in problem solving and initiative to learn new skillsDemonstrated leadership, versatility and integrityStrong knowledge of MS Office applicationsApply by 11:59 PM, EST April 5.
